Our market‑leading client is at the forefront of the Mechanical Handling Industry. They require an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to assist the team in the design of projects, including control‑systems design, build, testing and commissioning activities, to deliver best‑in‑class designs and operational excellence to their clients. This position combines office and site‑based work.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Office‑Based
    • Support the control‑system design team in specifying and integrating electrical field devices
    • Generate electrical cable block diagrams and cable schedules
    • Generate electrical cabling sizing calculations
    • Generate cable containment information
    • Work with mechanical resources to ensure electrical equipment is integrated into the overall design
    • Generate control‑system testing and commissioning schedules
    • Generate control‑system site acceptance test procedures
    • Produce risk assessments
  • Site‑Based
    • Carry out electrical control‑system installation works
    • Verify the control‑system elements
    • Set up and configure variable‑speed drives
    • Carry out electrical fault‑finding activities
    • Conduct control‑system electrical testing activities
    • Perform factory acceptance testing
    • Perform site acceptance testing
    • Produce reactive risk‑assessment and method statements
    • Perform preventive maintenance (PPM)
    • Carry out project modernisation work
    • Attend breakdowns, identify faults and carry out effective repairs

Key Skills / Experience

  • Essential
    • Knowledge and experience of overhead electrical travelling cranes
    • Previous experience installing and testing electrical control systems
    • Familiarity with safe systems of work, permit systems and health‑and‑safety legislation
    • Knowledge of the electrical wiring regulations
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Able to lodge away as required, dependent on job and location
    • Knowledge of machinery safety regulations (BS EN 13849‑1)
    • Security clearance to SC level may be required for this role
  • Desirable
    • Current 17th Edition wiring regulations certification
    • Knowledge of control‑system instrumentation such as laser positioning systems, position and speed encoders, and safe‑access systems
    • PLC/HMI literacy for testing, commissioning and fault‑finding using a programming laptop
