Purpose of the Role
To provide a complete and reliable delivery service to all customers, ensuring all transport operations are carried out efficiently, safely, and in line with company standards and legal compliance frameworks. Reporting to the Operations Director, you will manage the day-to-day movements of the transport fleet while maintaining high service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and allocate daily workload, scheduling all logistical movements to meet customer demands
- Manage fleet operations including low loaders, HIABs, and beavertail vehicles
- Oversee the movement of plant machinery, ensuring correct documentation and compliance with STGO regulations
- Ensure full compliance with all transport legislation, including tachographs, driver hours, and vehicle checks
- Monitor and manage the department’s administrative processes in relation to haulage
- Work closely with the service team to maintain high standards of vehicle maintenance and availability
- Liaise with customers daily to coordinate deliveries and collections, factoring in site constraints and timing requirements
- Improve fleet efficiency, routing, and MPG performance
- Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure driver behaviour, accident reporting, and legal standards are upheld
- Maintain driver training, qualifications, and compliance records
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and profitability
What We’re Looking For
- Transport Manager CPC (Essential)
- Proven experience in transport management within plant hire, construction, or haulage
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance
- Experience managing plant movements and specialist transport fleets
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
- Confident communicator with a customer‑focused approach
- Basic knowledge of plant machinery is advantageous
