As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Service Manager to support our operations and ensure maximum plant availability and compliance.
Purpose of the Role
To effectively manage the service department, ensuring all plant and equipment is maintained to the highest standards, maximising uptime, and supporting the operational needs of the depot and wider business. Reporting to the Operations director, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the workshop and service team.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the inspection and preparation of hire equipment
- Manage all major and minor repairs, ensuring maximum equipment availability
- Lead and manage workshop staff, including mobile fitters and support personnel
- Ensure full compliance with workshop health & safety standards and procedures
- Maintain compliance across workshop and yard operations
- Keep all statutory training and certifications up to date
- Deliver regular toolbox talks and performance updates to staff
- Monitor and process workshop timesheets
- Analyse costs and review purchase orders to identify savings and control overspending
- Support recruitment of workshop and mobile staff where required
- Drive improvements in productivity, team engagement, and retention
- Ensure clear and consistent communication with the wider depot and operations teams
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a Service Manager or senior workshop role within plant hire, construction, or related industries
- NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Solid understanding of plant maintenance, servicing, and compliance requirements
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong Health & Safety mindset
