The Opportunity
SK Professionals is working with a highly regarded Legal 500-ranked London law firm that is looking to appoint a Non-Contentious Construction Solicitor at 2β6 years' PQE to join its established Real Estate/Construction practice.
This is an excellent opportunity for a construction lawyer who is looking to build their career within a well-respected firm offering high-quality work, a strong client base and a genuinely collegiate working environment.
The team advises predominantly on construction matters arising from real estate development and investment, acting for developers, investors, landlords, occupiers and funders on a range of high-value commercial and residential projects.
This is a real estate-focused construction role, rather than one centred on energy, infrastructure or major projects.
The Role
You will advise a varied client base including developers, investors, landlords, tenants, funders and other real estate stakeholders on the construction aspects of development and investment projects.
Your work is likely to include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction contracts and associated documentation.
- Advising on JCT, NEC and other standard-form construction contracts, as appropriate to the project.
- Advising on the construction aspects of real estate development and investment transactions.
- Advising on procurement strategies and project structures.
- Drafting and negotiating building contracts, consultant appointments, warranties, bonds, guarantees and related project documentation.
- Supporting clients throughout the lifecycle of real estate development and construction projects.
- Advising on construction issues arising in connection with acquisitions, disposals, developments and real estate investment.
- Working closely with colleagues in Real Estate, Real Estate Finance, Corporate and other complementary practice areas.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Taking increasing responsibility for matters as your experience develops.
- Supporting business development and contributing to the continued growth of the construction practice.
The role will provide exposure to high-quality real estate development, investment and construction work, with the opportunity to work closely with experienced construction lawyers and develop your own client-facing profile.
About You
We are looking for a UK-qualified solicitor with approximately 2β6 years' PQE who has gained strong experience in non-contentious construction, ideally within a real estate-focused practice.
You should have:
- Strong experience in non-contentious construction law.
- Experience advising on construction matters arising from real estate development and investment.
- Experience drafting and negotiating construction contracts.
- Good knowledge of standard-form contracts, ideally including JCT and/or NEC.
- Experience with building contracts, consultant appointments, warranties, bonds and related construction documentation.
- Experience acting for or advising developers, investors, landlords, tenants, funders or other real estate clients.
- Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- A commercially focused approach to legal advice.
- The ability to manage your own workload and take responsibility for matters.
- A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in construction law.
- A collaborative and personable approach to working with both colleagues and clients.
Applications are welcome from candidates at different stages within the 2β6 PQE bracket, and the firm is prepared to consider candidates with slightly different experience where the overall construction and real estate background is strong.
This opportunity is particularly suited to candidates whose construction experience has been gained in the context of real estate development and investment, rather than candidates whose practice is predominantly focused on energy, infrastructure or major projects.
The Firm
The firm is a well-established Legal 500 practice in London, recognised for the quality of its work and client base.
The construction team works closely with the firm's wider Real Estate and Real Estate Finance practices, giving lawyers the opportunity to work on sophisticated development and investment projects while maintaining a more personal and collegiate environment than is often found within larger City practices.
The firm offers a supportive environment, genuine opportunities for progression and a flexible approach to hybrid working.
Salary & Benefits
- Β£90,000βΒ£120,000 salary, depending on PQE and experience.
- Competitive benefits package.
- Hybrid working, typically 2β3 days in the London office.
- Flexible working arrangements where appropriate.
- Genuine career progression.
- High-quality real estate development and construction work.
- Supportive and collaborative team environment.
