The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Transport Operator on behalf of our client based in Cullompton.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy transport operation, supporting the day-to-day administration and coordination of transport activities while ensuring high levels of efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Transport Manager to support, motivate, and coordinate the transport team, ensuring the effective utilisation of drivers and fleet resources.
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of transport operations, including dispatch coordination, driver debriefs, and monitoring operational activities.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers to ensure service expectations are consistently met.
  • Manage driver communications and debriefs, ensuring efficient deployment of resources and effective planning of workloads.
  • Produce regular operational reports, highlighting performance, customer feedback, and any operational challenges.
  • Monitor and support compliance with all health and safety procedures, transport regulations, and company policies.
  • Respond professionally to customer, driver, and internal queries via telephone, email, and face-to-face communication.
  • Assist with the production and analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) and daily operational statistics.
  • Support compliance activities relating to transport legislation and company procedures.
  • Coordinate responses to vehicle breakdowns and operational disruptions, minimising impact on service delivery.
  • Promote a positive team culture by supporting colleagues and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Previous experience within a transport or logistics environment.
  • Good understanding of the Working Time Directive and EU Driver Hours Regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and use initiative when required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Competitive salary of £30,000 £32,000 per annum, depending on experience.
