We are hiring a Fleet Trainer who is responsible for delivering high‑quality, practical, and engaging training to colleagues across the business who operate company vehicles, including vans, HGVs, and specialist fleet assets. The role ensures that all drivers receive consistent guidance on safe working practices, legal compliance, and behavioural standards. This role is critical in reducing incidents, improving driver performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting a strong safety culture across the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training Delivery
  • Deliver classroom, digital, and on‑the‑road training covering:
  • Manual Handling (safe lifting, carrying, load restraint, ergonomic best practice)
  • Driver Behaviour (defensive driving, speed awareness, hazard perception, distraction management)
  • Driver Assessments (practical evaluations, route‑based assessments, corrective coaching)
  • HGV daily walk‑around checks (DVSA standards)
  • Tachograph rules, working time, and drivers' hours compliance
  • Deliver new‑starter induction training for all fleet‑related roles
  • Provide targeted refresher training following incidents, near misses, or performance concerns
  • Tailor training to different audiences (multi‑drop van drivers, field engineers, HGV drivers, supervisors)
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure all training content aligns with current legislation (DVSA, HSE, Drivers' Hours Regulations, Working Time Directive).
    • Conduct audits of driver checks and vehicle condition to ensure compliance with company policy.
    • Monitor driver behaviours using telematics and intervene where training is required.
    • Support the Fleet team in maintaining OCRS scores, and overall compliance performance.
    • Maintain accurate training records for audit and insurance purposes.

    Requirements

    • Proven experience delivering driver or transport‑related training
    • Strong knowledge of UK driving regulations, including:
    • DVSA walk‑around check standards
    • HGV daily checks
    • Tachograph rules (EU Reg 561/2006 and AETR)
    • Working Time Directive (Road Transport)
  • Experience coaching or assessing drivers (van and/or HGV)
  • Confident communicator able to engage large and small groups
  • Strong practical understanding of manual handling principles
  • Full UK driving licence (including Category C preferred; Category C1 minimum)
  • Willing to travel and occasional overnight stays.
  • Desirable

    • Accredited Manual Handling Trainer qualification
    • RTITB / DVSA / Fleet Trainer certification or similar
    • Experience with telematics platforms and driver‑behaviour analytics
    • FORS, CLOCS, or similar compliance scheme drivers' safety experience
    • Experience in a logistics, utilities, field operations or transport environment
