We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and dedicated team at the Kent and Medway Prosthetic Centre in Maidstone.
Working within our specialist prosthetic rehabilitation service, you will become part of an experienced multidisciplinary team providing high-quality, person-centred rehabilitation to adults and children with congenital or acquired limb absence.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with relevant rehabilitation experience who is looking to develop or further utilise their specialist skills within prosthetics.
As an Occupational Therapist within our prosthetic rehabilitation service, you will work autonomously to provide specialist assessment, intervention and advice to patients with limb absence or limb difference, with a particular focus on prosthetic rehabilitation.
You will assess functional ability, activities of daily living, environmental needs and rehabilitation potential, developing individualised rehabilitation plans based on each patient's needs and goals.
You will also support patients throughout their prosthetic journey, including preparation for prosthetic use, functional training, review and advice on safe and effective use.
Working closely with Prosthetists, Physiotherapists and other members of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist occupational therapy input to help patients maximise their independence, function and quality of life.
- Your Responsibilties
- Plan and undertake highly specialist, person-centred assessment of adults and children with complex presentations, using advanced clinical reasoning to agree meaningful goals and formulate individualised rehabilitation plans.
- Provide specialist upper and lower limb prosthetic rehabilitation, including assessment of functional requirements, preparation for prosthetic use, training, review and advice on safe use.
- Develop, deliver and evaluate individualised rehabilitation programmes based on agreed patient goals.
- Communicate sensitively and effectively with patients, families and carers, particularly where patients may be adjusting to life-changing circumstances.
- Work collaboratively with Prosthetists, Physiotherapists, medical staff and other health and social care professionals.
- Provide specialist advice, education and training to colleagues and external professionals where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and work in accordance with HCPC standards and clinical governance requirements.
- Contribute to service development, clinical audit, outcome measurement and continuous improvement.
- Support and supervise colleagues and learners, contributing to a positive learning environment.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, consent, risk management, confidentiality and patient safety.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Current HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
- Substantial post-registration Occupational Therapy experience.
- Relevant experience within amputee rehabilitation, limb difference and/or prosthetics.
- Experience managing a complex clinical caseload and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong clinical reasoning, assessment and treatment-planning skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively with patients and families.
- Experience supervising or supporting colleagues, students or other learners.
- Good organizational and IT skills.
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role.
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to the wider multidisciplinary team.
