Data Cabling Infrastructure Engineer in Hull

A Data cabling infrastructure engineer is responsible for installing, commissioning, and maintaining Data cabling infrastructure systems. They play a crucial role in ensuring the transmission of data on a clients LAN/WAN is optimised and efficient.

Key responsibilities include:

• Site Surveys and Planning: Conducting site surveys to assess and identify system requirements. Reviewing and understanding data cabling infrastructure designs based on network requirements and industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, etc.). Assisting the Projects team with development of detailed cabling layouts and schematics. Assisting with development of cable routing, termination points, and equipment placement. Assisting with estimations of material requirements and project timelines.
• Installation and Termination: Installation of copper and fibre optic cables, including pulling, routing, and securing cables in cable trays, conduits, or other designated pathways/containment. Termination of cables using appropriate connectors (RJ45, ST, SC, LC, etc.) and appropriate tooling. Installation of network jacks, patch panels, and other hardware components.
• Testing and Certification: Performing comprehensive testing of installed cables using cable certifiers to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. Identifying and resolving cable faults/issues in line with industry and manufacturers guidelines. Generating detailed test reports documenting the performance of the cabling infrastructure.
• Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnosing and resolving network connectivity problems related to cabling issues. Performing ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting of the cabling infrastructure. Updating and maintaining cabling documentation.
• Project Management: Managing small, medium and large cabling projects (in line with skill set and experience), including resource allocation, and on-site material handling. Coordinating with key stakeholders (Operations Manager, Projects Manager etc.) to ensure smooth project execution.
• Additional Responsibilities: Ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices, including safety regulations. Following manufacturer's guidelines for cable installation and termination. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of the cabling infrastructure, including as-built drawings, test results, and maintenance records. Communicating effectively with project managers, network engineers, and other team members. Providing clear and concise explanations of technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Liaising with clients to understand their needs and expectations. Providing technical advice and support. Responding to client inquiries and resolving issues promptly.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

• Technical Skills: Strong understanding of networking principles and protocols. Proficiency in cable installation, termination, and testing techniques. Familiarity with cable testing equipment and software. Knowledge of cabling standards and best practices (TIA/EIA, BICSI). Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and blueprints.
• Soft Skills: Problem solving and analytical skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational and time management skills.
• Certifications (Optional): BICSI Installer I, II, or Technician certifications. CompTIA Network+ certification.
