The role: A Security Systems Engineer is a highly skilled professional responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining security systems to protect physical assets, personnel, and sensitive information. They play a crucial role in safeguarding organizations from various threats, including unauthorized access, theft, and vandalism.

Liaise with Operations & Project Managers to ensure clear and concise communications throughout the lifespan of job/project. Support and assist colleagues with questions, queries and/or training requirements in relation to Security systems. Strive to achieve excellence in everything you do, ensuring clients receive the best possible service and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Site Surveys and Planning: Select and install appropriate security hardware and software components, such as Access Control Systems and Solutions, CCTV Surveillance Systems and Solutions, Intruder detection Systems and Solutions. Conduct comprehensive security assessments to identify vulnerabilities and risks. Design and develop security systems that align with the client's/project’s specific needs and industry standards. Assist the Projects team with development of detailed system layouts and schematics. Assist with estimations of material requirements and project timelines.
  • System Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform regular maintenance checks and updates to ensure optimal system performance. Troubleshoot and resolve system malfunctions promptly. Conduct thorough investigations to determine the root cause of incidents. Implement corrective measures to prevent future occurrences. Monitor system logs and alerts to identify potential threats and security breaches.
  • Security Policy and Procedures: Develop and enforce security policies and procedures to maintain a secure environment. Conduct regular security awareness training. Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging security threats.
  • Documentation, Testing and Certification: Perform comprehensive testing of installed security hardware/equipment to ensure compliance with industry standards, accreditations and client specifications. Generate detailed test reports documenting systems/solutions performance. Generate detailed reports on system performance, incident response, and security audits. Maintain accurate and up-to-date system documentation, including as-built drawings, test results and maintenance records.
  • Project Management: Manage small, medium and large projects (in line with skill set and experience), including resource allocation, and on-site material handling. Coordinate with key stakeholders (Operations Manager, Projects Manager etc.) to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices, including safety regulations. Follow manufacturers and industry guidelines for installation and commissioning. Communicate effectively with project managers, network engineers, and other team members. Provide clear and concise explanations of technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Liaising with clients to understand their needs and expectations. Provide technical advice and support. Respond to client inquiries and resolve issues promptly.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of networking principles and protocols. Strong understanding of security systems technologies, including hardware and software components. Proficiency in network and IT infrastructure. Proficiency in cable installation, termination, and testing techniques. Familiarity with cable testing equipment and software. Knowledge of European standard for installation and maintenance of CCTV, Access Control and intruder alarm systems (BS EN 50132, BS EN 50133, BS EN 50131…etc). Knowledge of cabling standards and best practices (TIA/EIA, BICSI). Ability to read and interpret design diagrams, schematics and blueprints.
  • Soft Skills: Problem-solving and analytical skills. Meticulous attention to detail to ensure system accuracy and reliability. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational and time management skills.
  • Certifications (Optional): Relevant security certifications, such as Security+ or CISSP, can enhance credibility and career advancement. CompTIA Network+ certification.
