Our client is a well established UK engineering and construction specialist with over 20 years experience delivering complex mechanical and electrical projects across critical and highly technical environments.

The business specialises in the design, construction, installation and maintenance of M&E systems, with a strong track record across data centres, critical infrastructure, healthcare, science and technology and other business critical environments.

They operate as a principal contractor on major engineering projects, working with leading clients to deliver technically demanding schemes safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

They have an established presence within the datacentre sector, including major projects in Harlow, making this an excellent opportunity to join a technically strong project team working on a large scale development.

Health and Safety Opportunity

They are currently looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join the project team on a major datacentre development in Harlow, Essex.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Health & Safety professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced construction environment and wants to be involved in a large scale, technically complex M&E project.

Datacentre experience is not essential.

They are particularly interested in candidates who have worked on large-scale M&E, mechanical and electrical, construction or major infrastructure projects and can demonstrate a strong understanding of site based health and safety.

You will work closely with the Project Management and Construction teams, providing day-to-day H&S support and helping to ensure the project is delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive health and safety advice and support to the project management and site teams.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations.
  • Monitor compliance with the Construction Phase Plan, RAMS and relevant company procedures.
  • Review and provide feedback on risk assessments and method statements.
  • Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe acts.
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of the project Health & Safety Plan.
  • Identify potential hazards and work with the construction team to implement effective control measures.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance and promote high standards of health and safety across the project.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, site inductions and safety briefings.
  • Maintain accurate H&S records, reports and inspection documentation.
  • Support the project team with ongoing improvements to health and safety performance.
  • Ensure relevant legislation, regulations and client requirements are understood and followed.
  • Promote a positive and proactive safety culture across the project.

About You

  • Previous experience working in a Health & Safety Advisor or similar site based role.
  • Experience within construction, M&E, engineering, infrastructure or a related environment.
  • Experience working on large-scale projects with multiple subcontractors and site teams.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent H&S qualification.
  • IOSH membership or working towards professional membership.
  • Strong knowledge of UK construction health and safety legislation.
  • Good understanding of RAMS, risk assessments, site inspections and incident investigation.
  • The confidence to engage with everyone from site operatives and subcontractors through to senior project management.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to health and safety.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working on a data-centre or critical-environment project.
  • Experience within large-scale M&E construction.
  • Experience working for a principal contractor.
  • Experience managing health and safety across complex construction projects.
  • Relevant additional H&S or construction qualifications.

Data-centre experience is desirable but not essential. If you have a strong background in large scale M&E, construction or engineering projects, your experience will be considered.
