The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering high‑quality electrical designs and schematics that meet technical, safety, regulatory, and customer requirements. This role spans the full engineering lifecycle—from early concept development through detailed design, build support, testing, and commissioning—ensuring that Connected Kerb’s electrical systems are reliable, safe, and efficient. As a new strategic position within the business, the Electrical Design Engineer will act as the electrical custodian for Connected Kerb’s current electric vehicle charge point product portfolio while leading the development of future electrical engineering solutions for upcoming products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce detailed electrical designs, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings, 3D layouts using SolidWorks Electrical and SolidWorks Mechanical.
  • Carry out electrical calculations, including load analysis, cable sizing, protection coordination, and fault current evaluation.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK and international standards (e.g., BS 7671, IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (5th Edition), IEC standards, applicable British Standards).
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, bills of materials (BOMs), and change records.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing technical insight and supporting cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Work closely with mechanical, software, testing (Test labs) and manufacturing teams to ensure design compatibility and smooth project delivery.
  • Support prototyping, build phases, testing, and commissioning activities as required.
  • Assist in evaluating suppliers, components, and technologies to support innovation and continuous improvement and design for scale and mass production (Reduce cost, increase quality and reduce time).
  • Ensure all design work adheres to safety, quality, and regulatory requirements and good practice.
  • Provide technical support during product lifecycle, including troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, circuits, and power systems.
  • Knowledge of UK electrical design standards is essential (e.g., BS 7671/IET Wiring Regulations, BS61851).
  • Ability to produce accurate schematics, diagrams, 3D electrical layouts and technical documentation.
  • Ideally, a skilled user of SolidWorks Electrical, Solid Works Premium and SolidWorks PDM.
  • Nice to have would be SolidWorks Composer.
  • Experience guiding new electrical products from initial concept through prototyping, compliance testing, production pilot builds, and ultimately into full mass production and installation.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across engineering and non‑engineering teams.
  • Organised, methodical, and comfortable working in fast‑paced project environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to project deadlines.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of renewable energy, EV charging, power electronics.
  • Familiarity with 3D design environments and mechanical integration.
  • Exposure to safety‑critical or high‑reliability system design.
  • Experience with on‑site testing, commissioning, or field engineering.
  • Understanding of systems engineering, Agile methodologies, or configuration management.
