We are seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 3 child with autism on a 1:1 basis at a welcoming, one-form entry mainstream primary school in Borehamwood. This is a fantastic opportunity for an SEN TA who enjoys providing focused, individualised support and helping children access and engage with their learning.
The Role
You will work closely with a Year 3 pupil with autism, providing 1:1 support throughout the afternoon. The child has no behavioural issues and requires support primarily with accessing learning, staying engaged and developing independence within the classroom. You will work alongside the class teacher and wider school team to ensure the pupil is fully included in classroom activities and receives the appropriate support to make progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 3 pupil with autism
- Help the child access and engage with classroom learning
- Encourage independence and confidence
- Adapt and explain tasks where appropriate
- Support participation in classroom activities
- Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SEN team

- Experienced working with children with SEND/autism, or has relevant transferable experience
- Patient, calm and nurturing
- Confident supporting children on a 1:1 basis
- Able to encourage learning while promoting independence
