Overview
In this role you provide technical leadership in polymer compounding to support TE Swindon’s product range. You will collaborate with Design, Quality and Operations to enable Change Management, New Product Introduction (NPI), and effective problem solving while upholding safety, quality and customer requirements. You will lead and support validation activities, manage BOMs and documentation, and drive process improvements for reliability, yield and efficiency. You will investigate manufacturing issues and customer complaints to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure traceability and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day technical support for compounding operations using expert polymer materials, formulations, and processing knowledge
- Support Change Management, NPI and technical problem-solving with Design, Quality and Operations teams
- Lead and support product and process validation, including equipment qualification and raw material changes
- Investigate manufacturing issues and customer complaints to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Develop and implement process improvements to boost reliability, repeatability, yield and efficiency
- Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings and product specifications for traceability and costing
- Conduct material and product testing, analyze results, and update quality inspection requirements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem-solving methodologies
- Communicate project plans, progress, risks, and recommendations to Technical, Planning, Production and Management teams
- Ensure all activities comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards
Key requirements
- Engineering degree or equivalent (HNC/HND or degree)
- Experience in manufacturing, process/materials engineering or compounding environments
- Strong understanding of polymer science and compounding processes
- Experience supporting change management, process validation and NPI
- Proven ability to improve product quality, process capability, yield and efficiency
- Experience maintaining BOMs, routings and engineering documentation
- Strong project management and organisational skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing systems, process controls and data management
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on experience with polymer compounding equipment (batch mixers, twin screw extruders, Z-blade mixers)
- Experience in polymer formulation development and product validation
- Knowledge of 8D, Root Cause Analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies
- Familiarity with SPC, QMS and quality planning (APQP/PPAP)
- Experience in regulated manufacturing environments with focus on traceability and compliance
