Workshop Semi-Skilled / Skilled Technician

Location: North West London

Pay Rate: £19.77 per hour PAYE / £25.31 per hour Umbrella inc

Holiday Hours: 36 hours per week Contract: Temporary Shift: Rotating weekly shifts

Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for a Semi-Skilled / Skilled Fleet Technician to join a London based council on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will work within the Council's workshop environment, carrying out vehicle maintenance and repairs while ensuring all work is completed in line with strict Health & Safety, O License and DVSA requirements. This is a hands‑on role suitable for an experienced workshop technician or mechanic who has experience working with Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) and/or Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and is keen to develop their technical skills further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out vehicle maintenance, servicing and repairs to the required professional standards.
  • Work on Light Goods and Heavy Goods Vehicles and associated equipment.
  • Complete all work in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, O License requirements and DVSA standards .
  • Apply appropriate technical methods and workshop standards when completing repairs and maintenance.
  • Communicate effectively with the Workshop Supervisor or Manager throughout maintenance and repair processes.
  • Complete allocated workloads within agreed timescales.
  • Complete and submit all relevant workshop documentation accurately and on time.
  • Carry out vehicle and equipment checks and testing as required.
  • Follow documented safe working practices, risk assessments and workshop procedures.
  • Comply with COSHH requirements, including the safe handling and storage of relevant substances and materials.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe workshop environment.
  • Take responsibility for and respect Council tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Undertake technical training from internal and external sources as required.
  • Hold, or be willing to undertake training for, relevant licenses required to drive or test vehicles and equipment.
  • Support the wider workshop team to maintain an effective and reliable vehicle maintenance service.

Requirements

  • Previous experience within a vehicle workshop, mechanical maintenance or fleet environment.
  • Semi-skilled or skilled mechanical/vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Experience working on LGVs and/or HGVs would be advantageous.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, O License and DVSA requirements .
  • Ability to follow risk assessments, COSHH procedures and documented workshop processes.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to liaise with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage an allocated workload and complete work within agreed timescales.
  • Willingness to undertake further technical training where required.
  • Relevant driving or vehicle-related licenses would be advantageous, or willingness to obtain them through training.
  • Reliable, safety-conscious and able to work effectively as part of a busy workshop team.

Working Hours

The role is 36 hours per week , working on a rotating weekly shift pattern . Overtime is also available , providing an opportunity for additional hours where required.
