Are you a Production Design Engineer with a keen eye for detail and a passion for manufacturing excellence? Join Progress Rail Services UK and play a key role in supporting the production of our Cast Manganese Products. You'll create detailed casting drawings, work sketches, routing instructions and Bills of Material (BOMs), ensuring designs are accurate, practical and production-ready. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you'll help deliver high-quality track products while contributing to continuous improvement across our manufacturing processes.
THE ROLE: As a Production Design Engineer you will be required to:
- Process jobs in a timely and accurate manner to maximise production throughput and efficiency
- Improve existing products, processes and design tools and raise with line manager
- Compare alternative solutions of the product or process with line manager
- Produce designs for pattern production working with Pattern Making, Methoding and Machining teams to ensure compliance with best practice
- Ensure a senior Engineer is consulted and informed regarding all emerging risks and opportunities relating to safety, programme, products or projects
- Provide high quality, accurate work to established drawing, technical or engineering standards
- Use and assist in the development of emerging design tools and software
- Consider product behaviour, manufacturability and maintainability issues throughout the design process
- Provide support to manufacturing operations to aid engineering compliance issues arising through NCRs or process change
- Apply a solid understanding of processes and capabilities to ensure all drawings and supporting documentation align with operational requirements
THE CANDIDATE: The ideal Production Design Engineer:
- A minimum of HNC or equivalent in mechanical or production engineering
- In depth understanding of technical drawings
- Understanding of importance of procedures and processes
- Good knowledge of technical standards, codes and specifications
- Previous use of AutoCAD or NX beneficial
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong IT skills
