Are you working in the agricultural, animal health or pet trade and looking to take the next step into a more commercially focused sales role? We’re working with an established and growing business to recruit a Sales Executive into its commercial team. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in an agricultural trade store, pet trade environment, agri merchant or a junior field sales role who wants to develop their sales career and take on greater responsibility for customer relationships and revenue growth.
The role is predominantly office-based, so you’ll need to be within a realistic commuting distance of the company’s Lancashire office. You’ll be responsible for managing an outbound sales cycle across an existing customer base, building relationships with trade customers, increasing order volumes and identifying opportunities to cross-sell and introduce additional products.
This is a hands-on sales role where activity, relationship building and commercial results will be important. It could suit someone who already has good product and industry knowledge but wants to move away from a purely trade counter, store or support-based position and into a more focused sales environment.
What will you be doing?
- You’ll be responsible for proactively engaging with existing trade customers, developing relationships and identifying opportunities to grow sales.
- Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing an outbound call cycle across an existing customer base
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with trade store customers
- Proactively contacting customers to generate repeat and additional orders
- Identifying cross-selling and up-selling opportunities
- Driving order frequency and increasing customer spend
- Introducing customers to new and relevant products
- Understanding customer requirements and recommending appropriate products
- Following up on enquiries, quotations and previous customer conversations
- Maintaining accurate customer records and sales activity
- Working closely with the wider commercial and customer service teams
- Developing a strong understanding of the company’s product portfolio
- Consistently working towards sales and activity targets
- Taking ownership of customer relationships and developing them over time
What are we looking for?
We’re open-minded about background. This role could be particularly well suited to someone who has gained experience in the agricultural or pet trade and is now looking to move into a more commercially focused sales position.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- Previous experience within agriculture, animal health, pet, feed, agricultural merchants or a related trade environment
- Experience working in an agricultural or trade store, ideally with some customer-facing or sales responsibility
- Alternatively, experience as a junior field sales representative or sales support professional within the agricultural/pet sectors
- Confidence speaking to customers over the phone and building relationships
- A commercially minded approach and an interest in developing sales
- The motivation to proactively contact customers rather than waiting for enquiries to come in
- Good communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to understand customer needs and identify opportunities to increase sales
- A positive, driven and target-focused attitude
- A willingness to learn and develop within a sales environment
You don’t need to be an experienced salesperson. If you have good industry knowledge, understand trade customers and have the personality and ambition to develop into a strong commercial salesperson, we’d be interested in speaking with you.
What’s in it for you?
- Salary up to £40,000 DOE
- The opportunity to move from an agricultural/pet trade environment into a dedicated sales career
- An established customer base, giving you the opportunity to focus on developing relationships and growing existing accounts
- Full training and support across the company’s product portfolio
- A commercially focused role with clear responsibility for driving sales
- The opportunity to develop your sales skills and progress your career within an established business
- The chance to build valuable experience across customer management, outbound sales, cross-selling and account development
