Group Metropolitan was founded in 1985 as an electrical contractor carrying out small moves and changes projects for a select few clients. Over the past 35 years, we have grown into a turnkey Principal Contractor offering in-house tradespeople, with a projected turnover of £80M. The role of an Electrical Project Manager at Group Metropolitan Ltd holds significant importance as it comes with a well-defined set of duties aimed at ensuring the delivery of projects are completed safely, on time, within budget and to a high standard of quality. The role will require close collaboration with numerous stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, including but not limited to designers (internal and external), architects, GML estimating department, key account leads, project commercial teams in-house and client side, sub-contractors, manufacturers and specialist suppliers, client agents, commissioning teams and high-profile customers. The candidate will be a key contributor from conception, through the design stages, managing the delivery and ensuring that each project is successfully handed over and closed out in a professional manner to the highest of standards.

Generally, the above hours will be flexible in line with the needs of the business. We operate a fair working policy but if any extended overtime is worked by agreement of your line manager, then overtime payment will be applicable.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and regulations/guidelines.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Timely completion of internal training.
  • Positive attitude towards work.
  • Proven ability to manage teams and operatives.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism including punctuality and reliability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
  • A valid black ECS card
  • Testing and Inspection 2391 certificate
  • 18th Edition certificate
  • L3 Electrotechnical qualification
  • AM2S certificate
  • A valid UK drivers licence
  • A project management qualification such as Prince2 (Desirable)
  • Mechanical knowledge (Desirable)
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required

Responsibilities

  • Proven track record of estimating and delivering multiple fast track small works within live environments.
  • Delivering electrical projects to an extremely high standard.
  • Possessing a professional demeanour, client facing and with a keen focus on customer care in all instances.
  • Confident and effective communication, ability to chair meetings, driving outcomes, ensuring the production of accurate records of discussions, actions and deadlines.
  • Liaison with designers, estimating and commercial teams.
  • Ability to fully understand the client requirement, technical specifications, drawings and project requirement holistically.
  • Experience in the RIBA design, delivery, and project commissioning stages (desirable)
  • Good understanding of design and project risks.
  • Identify, manage and elevate risks where necessary.
  • Be able to contribute and manage against the sequence of works for the project programme.
  • Ability to drive the project programme, ensuring key milestones are maintained.
  • Ability to foresee potential points of failure and react accordingly.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports including programme drop lines to project stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with producing onsite dilapidations and completion of validations.
  • Understanding the importance of the development and submission of RFIs, TQs, VOs and driving close out of items raised.
  • Familiar with Technical Submission procedures and sign off.
  • Ability to make sound business decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent time management, ability to delegate, prioritise key tasks and workload when working to strict deadlines.
  • Good understanding of project governance and the requirement for procedural conformity.
  • Commercially astute, sound awareness of the contract terms ensuring adherence, ability to highlight risks, manage variations, delays and EOT requirements, liaising with internal QS’s to ensure that the business is commercially protected.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with the customer, framework suppliers and design consultants.
  • Possess the ability to be assertive where required.
  • Able to read the situation and make sound decisions, managing multiple entities both up and downstream, being the conduit to success.
  • Highly adept at the co-ordination of work packages, understanding the interaction of trades and the ability to foresee potential issues.
  • Lead by example, promote the highest of standards with regards to HSEQ best practice, ensuring compliance with company standards, policies, ISO accreditations and legislative requirements in all instances.
  • Sound knowledge of CDM Regulations, Principal Designer & Principal Contractor responsibilities under appointment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new ways of working.
  • Drive the company’s vision, values and work ethic, contributing to the growth of the business.
  • Generate new opportunities, upsell GML as a business, secure additional works where possible, act on opportunities to reduce cost, add value and maximise profit.
  • Ensure all programmes, plans, method statements and risk assessments are robust, up to date, understood and implemented.
  • Ordering materials for projects.
  • Issuing purchase orders to supply chains and ensure better buying process are adhered to.
  • Produce Health and Safety packs as required.
  • Ensure that all site records are kept up to date in line with company and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure all persons working on site have the correct competence and training for the role they are carrying out.
  • Completion of testing documentation and other relevant record information and upload to company Dutiful system.
  • Carry out site surveys to establish SoW for costing purposes.
  • Ensure accurate recording of the correct working hours associated to each project worked on.
  • To cover weekend working as required.
  • Drive Project delivery through correct labour allocation and requirements.
