Kent is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Aberdeen Structures Team within our UK Consulting business. Our Aberdeen Structures Team provides a broad range of services across our Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind markets. We are the ‘go to’ company for complex problems in design, engineering, integrity management, structural analysis, life extension, and ultimately decommissioning. Our structural teams work on some of the most exciting and varied projects in the offshore sector. This role provides opportunities to work across our structural offshore services, including integrity, design, analysis and decommissioning. Flexibility is key, with a varied work pipeline across our Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind markets. This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden horizons and engage with local clients, while enhancing current skillsets.

Skills & Responsibilities:

  • Leading structural analysis, including linear and non-linear analyses, to support design in Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind projects.
  • Leading design calculations; preparing inspection workbooks; conducting anomaly reviews; developing risk-based inspection strategies; and contributing to life extension studies.
  • Leading all phases of offshore decommissioning, from early concept development through to detailed engineering for removals.
  • Plan, develop, execute, and report on complex analysis models using a range of industry-standard analysis software.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers, supporting their technical and professional development.
  • Undertake both assessment of existing offshore assets and new design projects, depending on business needs; work will range from hand calculations to linear and non-linear finite element analysis.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify, develop, and implement new technical methodologies.
  • Build, communicate, and maintain effective client relationships, including leading client facing conversations and delivering presentations of project work.
  • Manage personal cost and time targets to deliver an efficient, high-quality engineering service.
  • Prepare clear, concise, high-quality technical reports.
  • Work within highly experienced, multi-disciplinary teams to execute projects successfully.
  • Develop technical and professional capabilities in line with Kent career pathways.
  • Work as part of an integrated team, ensuring client interaction and project delivery from multiple locations.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

  • Engineering degree with honours or equivalent in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • Ideally Chartered (ICE, IMechE, IStructE etc), or actively working towards chartership.
  • Knowledge of offshore structural engineering and relevant offshore design codes.
  • Demonstrable experience of core competence for Senior Engineer level in at least one area for offshore structures (Oil & Gas and/or Offshore Wind): 1) structural integrity management 2) structural analysis 3) structural design 4) decommissioning.
  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.

  • Experience working in accordance with structural engineering design codes and standards, with the ability to develop robust solutions from first principles based on a strong theoretical understanding.
