Accounting and Finance professional (Japanese speaking)

Our client is looking for an Accounting and Finance professional to support its operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Tax Management
• Oversee all tax and transfer pricing matters for the branch.
• Respond to inquiries from external advisors and tax authorities across the UK and EU.
• Review tax calculations prepared by agents or authorities and request corrections when needed.
• Conduct research on emerging tax issues relevant to business activities.
• Ensure compliance with tax laws, statutory requirements, and internal policies.
• Coordinate with external tax and accounting firms.
• Perform additional tax-related duties assigned by branch management.
• Accounting & Financial Control
• Manage branch accounting operations, including budgeting and financial reporting.
• Execute monthly/quarterly financial closing, consolidated reporting, and cash‑flow management.
• Collaborate with external accounting and audit partners.
• Support process improvements and operational enhancements.
• Carry out other accounting duties as assigned.
• Corporate Support & Leadership
• Provide regular reporting to headquarters in Japan.
• Train and mentor junior team members.
• Recommend improvements to tax and accounting processes.
• Administer local tax matters in coordination with external advisors.
• Support tax and accounting activities for European subsidiaries and affiliated companies.
• Engage with multiple internal departments across Japan, the UK, and Europe.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Around 7-10 years of experience in:

• Tax operations, transfer pricing, or financial controlling.
• Accounting operations, including financial closing and consolidated reporting.
• Native‑level Japanese proficiency (or JLPT N1 equivalent).
• Excellent English communication skills (minimum CEFR C1).
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience implementing or migrating to a new accounting system.
• Prior experience as a finance controller overseeing both tax and accounting functions.
