About the role

We are looking to expand our established User‑Centred Design (UCD) team with a skilled Service Designer to help design and deliver complex, user‑centred, and inclusive services that solve challenging public sector problems.

As a Service Design Practitioner, you will work closely with more senior colleagues in our multi‑disciplinary environment to create end‑to‑end services that prioritise user needs, accessibility, and client goals. Your work will contribute directly to delivering genuine value and impact daily.

You will be an active part of our design community of practice, helping to share knowledge, contribute to improvements, and provide guidance to junior colleagues. You will also play a role in refining best practices internally, ensuring our service design work continues to be effective and high‑quality.

Role Responsibilities

  • Plan and undertake research, analysis, and design activities, working with senior colleagues to produce robust, evidence‑based solutions that meet user needs and align with best practice (including accessibility, inclusion, and assisted digital)
  • Collaborate with senior and lead designers to produce and maintain research, analysis, and design artefacts, using standard methods, tools, and templates, and presenting findings in forums such as Show and Tell sessions
  • Work closely with technical colleagues (e.g., Engineers, Data Scientists, Business Analysts) to ensure designs are deliverable and specified in a format and level of detail that supports efficient development and build
  • Support Delivery Managers in executing activities in line with agreed plans, escalating risks and issues when necessary, and contributing robust estimates for technical work
  • Maintain up‑to‑date practitioner skills through training and accreditation, including domain‑relevant certifications

Requirements

Essential Skills

  • User‑Centred Design (UCD): Experience designing and delivering user‑centred solutions in complex service environments
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with senior designers, technical colleagues, and delivery teams to produce high‑quality outputs
  • Research & Analysis: Skilled at undertaking research and analysis to inform design decisions
  • Communication: Strong visual and verbal communication skills to make complex information understandable and actionable
  • Public Sector & Consultancy Experience: Familiarity with consultancy delivery in public sector contexts is desirable
  • Mentoring & Knowledge Sharing: Ability to coach junior colleagues and contribute to an active practitioner community
