Horner Salus Ltd is an event and fire safety consultancy that has been operating since 2010. We provide consultancy services across a multitude of business sectors and specialise in the live events industry. In the last few years, we have experienced significant growth in the fire safety services we provide and have extended our range of services to include Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Engineering and Consultancy that extend beyond the events industry into commercial and residential applications.
Who we want to appoint
We’re looking for an experienced and qualified Fire Engineer with the minimum IFE membership level of Associate; AIFireE along with minimum EngTech status. Equivalent membership levels acceptable.
Skills, qualifications and experience:
- 3 years’ minimum experience working in UK-based fire safety engineering
- A minimum IFE membership level of AIFireE
- A minimum EngTech status with the Engineering Council
- An in-depth working knowledge of fire engineering
- Expert knowledge and understanding of UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations and associated standards
- An in-depth knowledge of Building Regulations and their requirements for residential, non-residential and mixed-use developments
- Demonstrable experience in developing and authoring fire strategy reports
- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing with the ability to present information using excellent English and maths
- Be a proactive, self-motivated, team player who is flexible and willing to get involved with the development of the role and business growth
- Experience of client-facing projects and working within design team meetings
- Experience in producing fire safety strategies and complex fire risk assessments
- Previous experience in fire safety engineering within a consultancy environment
Additional desired qualifications:
- Be on the IFE’s Fire Risk Assessors Register
- IFE membership level of MIFireE
Your role
As a Junior Fire Engineer within our busy team, you will have day-to-day responsibility for the project management and delivery of fire safety services by the application of expert knowledge and understanding of UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations and associated standards. You will also play a large part in the growth of the business. The position will be focused on and around fire strategy writing, Building Control compliance, alternative solutions and complex fire risk assessment work.
The range of projects are varied and comprise new build designs and change of premises use for both commercial and residential sites, new theatre, film studio and event buildings along with temporary demountable structures for medium to long-term use. As part of your role, you will apply your fire strategy experience by leading in the delivery of projects to meet the agreed fee proposal, deliverables and timeframe, to achieve client expectations. The projects are generally located in and around London, with various projects also around the UK. The office is in Central London. The role would provide a split between office, home and site work.
