HGV Shunter / Fleet & Yard Operative to support the day-to-day operation of our specialist transport fleet based in Saltney, Chester.

Working closely with our Transport Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring our trucks, trailers and vans are safe, compliant, prepared and ready for deployment across the UK.

This is a varied role combining HGV shunting, vehicle preparation, fleet maintenance support and general yard operations.

This role is based Monday to Friday, with occasional overnight stays away from home depending on operational requirements.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Shunt HGVs and trailers between yards and storage facilities.
  • Take and collect vehicles from garages for servicing, testing and repairs.
  • Transport trucks and trailers for brake testing and inspections.
  • Clean, prepare and maintain trucks, trailers and vans for daily operations.
  • Ensure vehicles are loaded with the correct daily materials and equipment.
  • Build and collapse specialist medical trailers.
  • Carry out vehicle checks, including tyre pressures, fluid levels and general condition inspections.
  • Undertake minor vehicle and trailer repairs where competent to do so.
  • Identify and report defects, damage and maintenance requirements.
  • Liaise with third-party garages regarding servicing schedules, repairs and bookings.
  • Support general fleet, yard and vehicle preparation activities.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and professional working environment.

Essential Requirements

  • HGV Class 1 (C+E) Licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC.
  • Previous experience driving and manoeuvring HGVs and trailers.
  • Experience working with commercial vehicles.
  • Good understanding of vehicle safety checks and compliance requirements.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety standards.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous HGV shunting or yard-based experience.
  • Experience working within a transport, logistics or fleet environment.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Experience assembling, dismantling or preparing trailers.
  • Experience liaising with garages and vehicle maintenance providers.
  • Experience working with specialist, event or medical trailers.
