We are seeking a highly motivated technologist to join our Advanced Technology team in Edinburgh. This role focuses on exploring, developing and demonstrating novel technology and architecture concepts for future product differentiation in a fast-moving, exploratory environment. Working in close collaboration with senior technical leaders, you will take early-stage ideas through feasibility assessment, test chip implementation, silicon validation, and prototype demonstration.

You will evaluate the practicality of new approaches, identify key risks and trade-offs, and find pragmatic ways to combine mathematics, analog / mixed-signal circuit design, and algorithms to address complex problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and advance new technology concepts from early-stage ideas through to demonstrated feasibility.
  • Assess feasibility and practicality of novel approaches, identifying key risks, trade-offs, and fundamental limitations.
  • Design and implement transistor-level circuits to validate new concepts on test chips.
  • Develop prototypes to prove out and demonstrate potential solutions.
  • Analyse experimental data, modelling, and simulation results to guide technical direction.
  • Drive silicon bring-up, lab validation, debug, and characterisation of prototype designs.
  • Iterate quickly when results do not meet expectations, refining concepts and implementations to converge on viable solutions.
  • Present findings clearly and contribute to technical reviews through effective communication and documentation.
  • Directly contribute to product competitiveness by establishing that new features and solutions are feasible, advantageous, and robust for product use.
  • Identify high-value mid- and long-term technical challenges and opportunities to drive innovation.
  • Challenge existing approaches and thinking within the wider organisation to drive innovation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong background in analog / mixed-signal IC design at transistor level.
  • Deep understanding of CMOS analog fundamentals, including noise, stability, linearity, and device behaviour.
  • Proven experience taking designs from concept through simulation, silicon implementation, and lab validation.
  • Ability to assess feasibility of early-stage concepts, asking the right questions, identifying key risks and trade-offs, and filling gaps in incomplete problem definitions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to expose both conceptual and implementation issues quickly and iterate toward solutions.
  • Ability to work across disciplines, combining circuit design with algorithms, modelling, and system-level thinking.
  • Proficient data analysis skills, with the ability to analyse complex data sets to identify issues and guide iteration.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly, support technical discussions, and influence direction across the team.
  • Fluency with industry-standard design, prototyping and modelling tools (e.g., Spectre, Cadence, MATLAB, Python).
  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related discipline (preferably grade 2:1 or better); advanced degree (MSc/PhD) advantageous.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience with GaN circuit or system design.
  • Background in one or more relevant domains (e.g., data converters, power management, sensor interfaces, audio, or RF/PLL systems).
  • Experience developing early-stage test chips on immature processes with partial PDK and modelling capability.
  • Experience using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ocean / SKILL) to automate simulation, data processing, and analysis tasks.

This position is based in our Edinburgh office, UK. You must be based within commutable distance of the work location listed on the job posting, or willing to relocate prior to beginning employment with Cirrus Logic.
