Overview
In this IC EMC Engineer role, you help ensure electromagnetic compatibility of advanced mixed-signal ICs through simulation, testing, and silicon validation. You collaborate with IC, package, PCB, and systems teams to mitigate EMC risks across the product portfolio. You will perform EMC simulations, develop tests, and analyze results to drive performance improvements. This role offers hands-on lab work in Edinburgh and opportunities to influence customer-facing documentation and methodologies. You will contribute to a culture that values inclusion, collaboration, and practical problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Optimize RF emissions and immunity with IC design teams
- Run EMC simulations for IC, package, and ASIC technologies
- Develop and execute IC EMC tests for emissions and immunity
- Conduct measurements per IEC 61967, IEC 62132, CISPR 32, CISPR 25 and ISO 11452
- Use EMC test equipment (TEM cells, stripline fixtures, immunity surface-scan systems)
- Design EMC evaluation PCBs with test ICs and supporting circuitry
- Analyze test results and propose design/test improvements
- Provide technical input to customer-facing documentation
- Support customer engagements and occasional visits
- Improve EMC design and test methodologies across the portfolio
Key requirements
- Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in IC EMC, RF EMC or related EMC validation
- Experience with automotive EMC standards ISO 11452 and ISO 16750
- Strong practical EMC measurement and data analysis skills
- Understanding EMI impact on ICs at system level
- PCB schematic capture and PCB design experience
- Python, LabVIEW or similar for test automation and data analysis
