Channing School is seeking to appoint a highly organised, compassionate and proactive SEND Support and Access Arrangements Assistant to join our dedicated Learning Support team from September 2026. This is a part‑time (4 days per week), fixed‑term sabbatical cover position. The role is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting students with additional educational needs and ensuring they receive the tailored academic, pastoral and examination support they need to thrive.

Working closely with the Head of SEND and Assistant SENCO, the successful candidate will support the administration and implementation of exam access arrangements in accordance with JCQ regulations, while also providing individual mentoring and learning support for students. The role combines detailed administrative responsibilities with direct student support and collaboration with teachers, parents and external professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Gathering and maintaining evidence for access arrangements
  • Preparing and processing required documentation
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential student records
  • Supporting the development and review of Personal Learning Plans
  • Assisting with the upkeep of the SEND register
  • Providing one‑to‑one mentoring, helping students develop confidence, resilience, organisation and study skills
  • Contributing to their overall emotional wellbeing and academic progress

The successful candidate will have previous experience working within a school environment, a strong understanding of SEND, and a relevant HLTA or teaching qualification. They will have experience supporting exam access arrangements and possess excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills. The ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues, handle confidential information with sensitivity and discretion, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to supporting the individual needs and success of every student will be essential.
