This apprenticeship provides an opportunity to develop into a highly skilled Field Service Engineer supporting the full BLM product range, including laser tube cutting systems, flat sheet laser machines, production sawing machines, tube bending, wire bending, and end-forming solutions.
Working alongside experienced engineers, the Apprentice Field Service Engineer will develop the technical and customer-facing skills required to support advanced CNC machinery valued between Β£100k and Β£2.5 million. The role is designed to build deep product knowledge, strong problem-solving ability, and long-term career progression within the BLM engineering organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with fault-finding, diagnosis, and repair across the full BLM machine portfolio
- Support new machine installations, commissioning, and acceptance testing
- Participate in customer operator and maintenance training
- Carry out planned maintenance visits under supervision
- Provide after-sales and application support to customers
- Build trusted relationships with customers through professional service delivery
- Liaise with senior engineers, technical support, and factory teams on technical matters
- Provide structured feedback to support product improvement and development
Essential Attributes & Entry Requirements
- Strong interest in engineering, CNC machinery, and advanced manufacturing technology
- Basic knowledge (or current study) in one or more of the following areas: Electrical and electronic systems; Mechanical engineering principles; CNC systems; Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Studying towards, or holding, a relevant engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC, or equivalent)
- Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK & Ireland
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, hands-on attitude
- High standard of customer care and professionalism
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Attributes
- Exposure to CNC control systems (Siemens preferred)
- Awareness of laser cutting, tube processing, or metal fabrication technologies
- Basic CAD/CAM understanding
- Clear communicator with a positive, customer-focused approach

You will receive structured training across the entire BLM product range, including factory-based training, on-the-job mentoring, and continuous professional development. Successful completion of the apprenticeship will provide a clear pathway into a fully qualified Field Service Engineer role.
