About our Client:
Initially, our client can come across as shy; however, the warmth of his personality will grow and shine over time. The client has an amazing sense of humour and is looking for someone who likes a laugh and can encourage them to live their best life! At times the client may need some encouragement to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. Due to their condition, they like to forward plan events, for example, going to watch a rugby game or going to a music gig. He has a diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is a full-time powered wheelchair user.
As written by him: I have a good sense of humour but I am really, really rubbish at telling jokes. I also struggle to process information but that does not mean I am daft. In fact, my processing has been a source of much entertainment! I am thoughtful and kind but can get anxious. I am great at directing my care so we can muddle through this together. I love gaming, music, films, photography, sport (including motor sport) but especially rugby and like to watch matches from time to time. I like shopping, eating out and going to the pub. I will need help with all aspects of daily living, personal care, daily physio/stretches, feeding, cleaning, washing, positioning—you name it! I will need to be hoisted for all transfers. I need people who can be discreet, serious when required, but who will have a laugh with me. I do not do well with last minute changes although I am working on that. Having a carer will open up so many more opportunities and freedom for me to try new things, so get your thinking cap on—disclaimer: I do not want to try bungee jumping. I would like to go on some adventures, I am always open to suggestions to try something new but struggle with confidence issues.
