The team:
We're looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our Manchester-based engineering squad in the Point of Sale tribe. This team powers Zopa’s retail finance products — making it seamless for customers to access finance at the checkout. You'll be building intuitive, accessible, and high-performing user interfaces that support millions of customers across the UK. As a senior member of the team, you’ll drive the frontend architecture, mentor others, and help ensure a consistent user experience across platforms — all while keeping performance and maintainability top of mind.
Why join Zopa Manchester:
We’re building a new tech hub right in the heart of the city — with real backing, big ambition and the support of an established, award-winning company. You’ll be part of a new engineering chapter in Manchester, helping shape how we grow and build the team from day one. You’ll work in a product-focused environment where engineers own their work end-to-end, deploy to production frequently, and see the real-world impact of what they build. You’ll also get to work with a modern tech stack: Kotlin, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Aurora Postgres and more. We work hybrid, with at least 2 days a week together in our Manchester office.
A day in the life:
- Building rich, accessible, high-performing React applications that power Zopa’s retail finance journey
- Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver seamless user experiences
- Owning and evolving frontend architecture for scale and maintainability
- Contributing to technical direction, design discussions, and engineering practices
- Championing frontend excellence — from accessibility to testing and performance
- Mentoring others and helping raise the bar across the frontend craft
- Taking part in the full SDLC — including operating and supporting what you build in production
About you:
- Strong experience building frontend applications using React in production
- Passionate about user-centric product design and great UX/UI
- Comfortable working in modern CI/CD environments with automated testing and deployments
- You understand frontend architecture, performance tuning and accessibility best practices
- Familiarity with backend systems (especially Kotlin, APIs, microservices) is a plus - but not essential
- Pragmatic, collaborative and excited to work in a fast-moving environment with end-to-end ownership
We’re expanding! From September 2025, Zopa will be opening a brand-new office in Manchester at WeWork, Dalton Place, 29 John Dalton Street, M2 6WF.
At Zopa we value flexible ways of working. We value face-to-face collaboration and a good work-life balance. This hybrid role requires you to come to our Manchester office 2-3 days a week. You'll also have the option of working from abroad for up to 120 days a year! But no matter where you are, we’ll make sure you’ve got everything you need to thrive, both in your work and home life, from day one.
