Statistics Estonia and Nortal have a long-standing cooperation. The basic processes of Statistics Estonia involve data acquisition, organisation, analysis, and publication of results. One of the client’s key goals is REGREL2020, the next population and housing census, which will be conducted differently by gathering data from national registries instead of requiring residents to answer individual questions.

The achievement of this goal will necessitate interfacing with at least 15 external registries and gathering data for further processing.

Technical Challenges

  • Data volumes – The systems must handle large volumes of personal and corporate data, requiring well-optimised query and data-use processes.
  • Increased intensity of use at specific times, such as during the population census, necessitating robust authentication solutions and data reception applications.
  • Complex synergised applications – Integration is crucial as various larger information systems must communicate regularly.
  • Ensuring data security – Sensitive information must be protected.
  • Clear vision – Developments are based on architectural plans that adapt to emerging world trends, with opportunities for new applications and ideas.

Technological Keywords: Atlassian, Bamboo, Maven, Weblogic, Java, Oracle, PL/SQL, X-road, CAS.
