About the role

Vision for Education are working alongside Special Needs Schools in Birmingham who provide an outstanding, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We are now actively seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and highly skilled Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join a committed leadership team and help shape the educational experiences and outcomes of pupils. This is an exciting and ongoing opportunity for an experienced SEN professional who is passionate about ensuring every child reaches their full potential through high-quality, personalised provision.

About the Role

As SENCO, you will lead and coordinate the strategic development of SEND provision across the school, ensuring that every pupil receives the support, challenge, and opportunities they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, support staff, families, and external agencies, you will play a pivotal role in developing inclusive practice and maintaining the highest standards of care and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the school's SEND provision in line with statutory guidance and best practice.
  • Oversee the implementation, monitoring, and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Support staff in planning and delivering high-quality, differentiated teaching and learning.
  • Coordinate assessments, interventions, and provision mapping.
  • Work closely with families, carers, local authorities, and external professionals to ensure positive outcomes for pupils.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development to colleagues.
  • Monitor pupil progress and evaluate the impact of interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant SEND legislation, safeguarding requirements, and school policies.
  • Contribute to the strategic leadership and continuous improvement of the school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified teacher (PGCE/QTS/QTLS essential) and has completed the mandatory National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs.
  • Has experience working with pupils with SEND.
  • Is patient, resilient, and creative in their approach to teaching.
  • Has strong behaviour-support skills.
  • Can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

To be considered for the role, you will:

  • Have a suitable qualification (QTS/QTLS/NPQ essential).
  • Have experience of working with children with special education needs and disabilities.
  • Be confident in your abilities and skills to promote happy and confident learners.
  • Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications.
