  • Principal Fire Protection Engineer – London

A leading global engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to join its London-based team.

The business delivers engineering services across some of the world's most complex buildings and infrastructure, working collaboratively across multiple disciplines to provide technically robust solutions that enhance life safety, performance and resilience.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Fire Protection Engineer with a strong sprinkler design background to take a senior technical position within a highly established multidisciplinary engineering environment.

The Role

As Principal Fire Protection Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of projects, working from initial concept and design through to construction and commissioning.

The role will have a strong focus on sprinkler and water-based fire protection system design, while also providing the opportunity to contribute to wider fire protection engineering solutions.

You will

  • Lead the design and delivery of sprinkler and fire protection systems across a range of complex building projects.
  • Develop fire protection designs from concept through detailed design and construction.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, calculations, drawings and design documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise and engineering advice to clients and project teams.
  • Work closely with architects, structural engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate fire protection systems with wider building services and architectural requirements.
  • Review designs and provide technical assurance to ensure quality, compliance and buildability.
  • Attend client and design team meetings and provide technical input throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support project managers and senior leadership with technical delivery, resourcing and project planning.
  • Mentor and develop junior and less experienced engineers.
  • Contribute to bids, proposals and the development of new client relationships.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Fire Protection / Sprinkler Engineer who can combine strong technical knowledge with the ability to lead projects and engage confidently with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

You will ideally have

  • Significant experience in sprinkler system design and fire protection engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge of relevant UK fire protection and sprinkler standards.
  • Experience designing systems across complex commercial, residential, infrastructure, healthcare, industrial or other major projects.
  • The ability to take responsibility for technical delivery and design quality.
  • Experience coordinating fire protection systems within a multidisciplinary design environment.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • Experience providing technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.
  • A relevant engineering qualification.
  • Chartered status, or a clear pathway towards professional registration, would be advantageous.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join a business working on major, technically challenging projects, with access to a genuinely multidisciplinary engineering environment.

You will be surrounded by specialists across building engineering, fire engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, structures and infrastructure, giving you the opportunity to work collaboratively and develop solutions across the full project lifecycle.

The position would suit someone who wants to move beyond purely production-based sprinkler design and take greater ownership of technical delivery, project leadership and client relationships.
