Canopius is looking for an experienced Workday Financials Reporting Analyst to design, build, and maintain custom reporting and analytics across the Workday Financials domain. The successful candidate will translate finance and accounting requirements into robust custom reports, with a particular emphasis on Composite, Matrix, and Advanced reports used to deliver financial statements such as income statements, plan-versus-actuals comparisons, and other consolidated management reporting. This is a hands-on build role. You will own report definitions end to end: selecting the right data source, constructing the necessary sub-reports, assembling them into Composite reports, applying calculations and formatting, and validating output against finance sign-off criteria. You will work closely with finance stakeholders, accounting teams, and the wider Workday configuration team, and you are expected to review your own work rigorously before it goes to a business owner.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and refine reporting requirements from finance and accounting stakeholders, and translate them into report designs that are accurate, performant, and maintainable.
  • Design and build custom reports across relevant Workday report types, including Advanced and Matrix, selecting the appropriate type for each requirement.
  • Design, build, and maintain Composite reports that combine data from multiple sub-reports into a single consolidated output.
  • Build the underlying Advanced and Matrix sub-reports and enable the correct business objects for filtering and grouping.
  • Configure control field columns, data columns, lookup field value columns, calculation columns, and empty columns.
  • Apply repeating column groups, prompt sets, analytic indicators, conditional formatting overrides, and drill-to report links.
  • Use dynamic control fields for accounting work tags so that a single Composite report can generate multiple financial report variants.
  • Build Matrix reports that summarise and drill down on data, configuring row and column groupings, summarisation, and field values groups.
  • Build Advanced reports, including the use of dynamic data rows, sub-filters, and sort orders.
  • Build and reuse calculated fields to reshape, format, retrieve, and derive data not directly available on the report data source.
  • Select appropriate report data sources, distinguishing between standard, indexed and Prism data sources, and tune reports for performance.
  • Validate and troubleshoot reports using tools such as Validate Composite Report, Report Definition Usages, and the Clean Up Custom Report task.
  • Configure output, sharing, scheduling, and report groups so that finance deliverables such as year-end statements run reliably and on time.
  • Manage report security appropriately, ensuring users see only the data they are entitled to.
  • Document report designs clearly and prepare design specifications for review and business sign-off.
  • Support testing, reconciliation of report output to source data, and knowledge transfer to finance users.

Skills

  • Extensive, demonstrable experience building and maintaining Workday Composite, Matrix, and Advanced reports.
  • Strong understanding of Workday reporting fundamentals: business objects, report data sources, and fields.
  • Experience authoring calculated fields and applying them within reports.
  • Solid grasp of financial reporting concepts, including income statements, plan versus actuals, variance analysis, and drill-down by dimensions.
  • Rigorous, detail-oriented approach: reconcile output to source, surface edge cases early, and review your own work.
  • Clear written communication for design documentation and stakeholder sign-off.
  • Exposure to Workday Accounting Center and/or Prism Analytics.
  • Experience with dynamic control fields for accounting work tags.
  • Report performance tuning on high-volume tenants.
  • Insurance industry experience is highly desirable, with the Lloyd's of London market preferable.
  • Configuration of dashboards and worklets and enabling reports as web services for downstream integration.
