You will work closely with finance stakeholders, accounting teams, and the wider Workday configuration team, and you are expected to review your own work rigorously before it goes to a business owner.
Responsibilities
Gather and refine reporting requirements from finance and accounting stakeholders, and translate them into report designs that areaccurate, performant, and maintainable.
Design and build custom reports across relevant Workday report types, including Advanced and Matrix, selecting theappropriate typefor each requirement.
Design, build, andmaintainComposite reports that combine data from multiplesub-reportsinto a singleconsolidatedoutput, including:
Building the underlying Advanced and Matrix sub-reportsand enabling the correct business objects for filtering and grouping so that eachsub-reportreferences all enabled objects.
Configuring control field columns, data columns, lookup field value columns, calculation columns, and empty columns.
Applying repeating column groups (for example repeating by company or costCentre), prompt sets, analytic indicators, conditional formatting overrides, and drill-to report links.
Using dynamic control fields for accountingwork tagsso that a single Composite report can generate multiple financial report variants.
BuildMatrixreports that summarise and drill down on data, configuring row and column groupings, summarisation, and field values groups, both as standalone outputs and assub-reportsfor Composite reporting.
BuildAdvancedreports, including the use of dynamic data rows,sub-filters, and sort orders, both as standalone outputs and assub-reportsfor Composite reporting.
Build and reuse calculated fields to reshape, format, retrieve, and derive data not directly available on the report data source.
Selectappropriate reportdata sources, distinguishing between standard, indexed and Prism data sources, and tune reports for performance (indexed fields for filtering, faceting, aggregation, and grouping).
Validate and troubleshoot reports using tools such as Validate Composite Report, Report Definition Usages, and the Clean Up Custom Report task; resolve join exceptions, anomalies, and warnings.
Configure output, sharing, scheduling, and report groups (including bursting) so that finance deliverables such as year-end statements run reliably and on time.
Manage report security appropriately, working within the relevant security domains and ensuring users see only the data they are entitled to.
Document report designs clearly andpreparedesign specifications for review and business sign-off.
Support testing, reconciliation of report output to source data, and knowledge transfer to finance users.
Skills
Extensive, demonstrable experience building andmaintainingWorkday Composite, Matrix, and Advanced reports. This is the core requirement for the role:
Composite: fluency withsub-reports, control field and data columns, the full range of row types, calculation expressions, outline structures, repeating column groups, prompt sets, analytic indicators, and drill-to links, and the ability to explain the design trade-offs behind each.
Matrix: confident configuration of row and column groupings, summarisation, drill-down, and field values groups, and use of Matrix reports as Compositesub-reports.
Advanced: confident use of filters,sub-filters, dynamic data rows, sort orders, and use of Advanced reports as Compositesub-reports.
Proventrack recordbuilding custom reports across the broader Workday report catalogue (Trending and others) in a Workday Financials context.
Strong understanding of Workday reporting fundamentals: business objects, report data sources, and fields, and how data source selection drives both available fields and report performance.
Experience authoring calculated fields and applying them within reports.
Solid grasp of financial reporting concepts, including income statements, plan versus actuals, variance analysis, and drill-down by dimensions such as ledger account, cost centre, and region.
Rigorous, detail-oriented approach: you reconcile output to source, surface edge cases early, and review your own work before it is distributed.
Clear written communication for design documentation and stakeholder sign-off.
Exposure to Workday AccountingCenterand/or Prism Analytics, and an understanding of how upstream data flows into Financials reporting.
Experience with dynamic control fields for accountingwork tagsand configuring a single Composite report to produce multiple statement variants.
Report performance tuning on high-volume tenants (indexed data sources, optimisation for performance).
Insurance industry experience is highly desirable, with the Lloyd's of London market preferable. Experience in another regulated financial-services environment will also be considered.
Configuration of dashboards andworklets andenabling reports as web services for downstream integration.
