We are the UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. Individually, our departments lead their fields. In partnership, they develop new responses to pressing world issues. As a whole, they represent a world-leading, multidisciplinary faculty, united by the radical spirit of UCL. The Bartlett is unrivalled in its breadth and depth of disciplines, programmes and departments. It is made up 13 Schools, Institutes, Centres and Units, providing teaching and research in a wide range of subject areas to over 4,000 students each year from across the world.
This role is part of the Bartlett Faculty Operations team, providing HR support across the Bartlett.
About the role
The HR Administrator role sits within the Bartlett Faculty Operations team and provides first-line HR administrative support across The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. The postholder will help deliver a customer-focused, efficient and proactive HR service, working closely with departmental teams, divisional colleagues and central UCL HR. A key part of the role is responding to HR queries, helping colleagues navigate HR processes, and ensuring accurate, timely support across recruitment, onboarding and the wider employee lifecycle.
The role involves coordinating recruitment from role identification through to onboarding, including contract requests, right to work and reference checks, immigration compliance signposting, use of applicant tracking systems, and supporting a positive candidate experience. It also includes maintaining HR records, processing employee changes and payments, supporting mandatory HR processes such as probation, appraisals and training, liaising with finance, assisting with organisational change activity, and arranging leaver processes.
Overall, the role is suited to someone highly organised, accurate, confident with systems, and able to provide a professional HR service to a wide range of internal and external contacts.
About you
You will be a highly organised and accurate administrator with experience working in a deadline-driven environment and handling confidential information appropriately. You will need strong attention to detail, good planning skills, and the ability to manage a varied workload while ensuring HR processes are completed accurately and on time. You will also have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work cooperatively with colleagues and provide a positive HR experience for internal and external contacts. The role requires someone who is comfortable using a range of digital tools, practical in their approach to problem-solving, and able to keep key stakeholders informed. Experience in higher education or another complex organisation, progress towards an HR qualification, and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion would be advantageous.
