About the Business

Our client is an FCA-authorised electronic money institution headquartered in London, combining the personalised service of private banking with the speed and convenience of modern fintech. The business offers high-net-worth individuals and global professionals a single platform for multi-currency accounts, real-time payments, foreign exchange, and trading. Launched in 2020, the business has built a profitable, self-funded operation, partnering with leading industry players and delivering a seamless, tech-first client experience — from account opening and instant payments to sophisticated FX and live equity trading — without compromising on security or service quality. As the business expands across new regions, it is seeking a Payments Team Leader to join the growing team and help deliver an exceptional client experience.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Payments Manager, the Payments Team Leader will oversee and structure the day-to-day processing of payments, FX booking, reporting, and accounts reconciliation. The wider team of 50 collaborates closely to maintain an exceptional standard of service, and the role calls for strong communication skills — particularly liaising with clients and internal teams — along with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process UK payments — BACS, CHAPS, and Faster Payments (incoming and outgoing).
  • Process international payments (incoming and outgoing).
  • Handle SWIFT payments via SWIFT AllianceLite2 (MT103, MT199).
  • Book FX transactions and monitor card payments.
  • Perform second checks and authorise manually entered or repaired domestic and international payments.
  • Liaise with Relationship Managers and clients regarding rejected or exceptional items and required documentation.
  • Communicate with clients on payments and account queries, ensuring a high standard of service.
  • Support the Compliance department with transaction monitoring.
  • Archive daily records and documentation; maintain and create procedural documentation.
  • Undertake payment investigations on behalf of clients under management supervision.
  • Resolve issues to minimise client dissatisfaction and potential lost revenue.
  • Support treasury operations and reconciliation, and liaise with counterparty banks on outstanding items.

Skills & Experience

  • Solutions-focused and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and trustworthy, with the ability to meet strict deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

Compensation & Benefits

  • £50,000–£57,000 salary.
  • Hybrid working — office-based 3–4 days per week (more during onboarding).
  • Health insurance and life insurance.
  • £15 daily lunch allowance (office-based).
