A fantastic opportunity for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join a well-established technology company delivering secure, scalable software solutions within a highly regulated environment. This senior-level role will provide technical leadership across DevOps and infrastructure functions, driving automation, improving deployment processes, and ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of critical systems. You will play a key role in shaping DevSecOps adoption, mentoring colleagues, influencing architecture decisions, and supporting the evolution of both cloud and on-premise platforms. Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure is essential for this role.
Location: Leicestershire – hybrid working with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office for the foreseeable future. Some public transport is available from Leicester, Rugby and Market Harborough; however, driving is significantly more convenient.
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum + benefits
Requirements for Senior DevOps Engineer:
- Strong commercial experience with Microsoft Azure is essential, including the design, deployment and management of complex Microsoft-based infrastructure environments
- At least 5 years' commercial experience in a Senior DevOps role, including demonstrable experience leading initiatives, mentoring colleagues and owning architecture decisions
- Experience working within security-focused or highly regulated environments
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or Azure DevOps from both an operational and architectural perspective
- Strong understanding of networking, security and system administration principles
- Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and embedding security controls into delivery pipelines
- Experience with secrets and identity management, including Azure Key Vault, managed identities, Entra ID integration and RBAC design
- Experience with Azure networking and cloud infrastructure management
- Experience with observability, monitoring and logging platforms such as Azure Monitor and Grafana
- Experience with cloud cost optimisation and governance (FinOps)
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong scripting and automation experience using PowerShell, Python and/or Bash
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication and documentation skills
- Ability to provide technical leadership and collaborate effectively across multiple teams
- Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance
Desirable:
- Experience with AWS and/or GCP
- Experience working in Agile environments
- Cloud, Azure or DevOps-related certifications
- Degree educated in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject, or equivalent commercial experience
- A full UK driving licence would be advantageous
Responsibilities for Senior DevOps Engineer:
- Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support efficient and secure software delivery
- Provide technical leadership across DevOps practices, platform reliability and infrastructure evolution
- Administer and optimise Azure and on-premise application environments
- Implement and maintain monitoring, logging and alerting solutions across business-critical systems
- Ensure security best practices are embedded throughout infrastructure, applications and deployment processes
- Develop scripts, tooling and automation solutions to improve operational efficiency
- Support the full application lifecycle, including troubleshooting and resolving deployment issues
- Manage incidents and requests in accordance with the ITIL framework
- Proactively identify, assess and remediate vulnerabilities across infrastructure, applications and pipelines
- Implement and maintain secure Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
- Manage secrets, certificates, credentials and identity controls in line with least-privilege principles
- Embed security controls and automated testing throughout CI/CD pipelines to support DevSecOps adoption
- Collaborate closely with Software Development and IT teams to support delivery, reliability and operational excellence
- Contribute to improving system scalability, resilience, security and performance
