About the role

We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst who can operate with equal confidence in a boardroom and a data model. You understand how physical energy markets operate — from trade capture and settlement through to logistics, risk management, and financial reporting — and you know how these processes should work inside a CTRM system. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of domain expertise and technology. You will translate operational knowledge of commodity trading into structured requirements, process schemas, and business rules that development teams can build from. You will help shape the business architecture of trading and risk management platforms, covering the full deal lifecycle: trading, finance, logistics, and risk. You will own workstreams end-to-end — from defining the problem and mapping processes to presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders including traders, operations leads, and investors. You will also play a key role in designing how AI and automation are applied within commercial workflows.

Location: Remote (UK-based), with regular travel to Dubai to work alongside the client’s operations team.

What You Will Do

  • Map and document business processes across Trading, Finance, Logistics, and Risk Management — from trade capture and confirmation through settlement, P&L reporting, inventory management, and delivery.
  • Define functional requirements and acceptance criteria that translate operational workflows into system logic, data models, and business rules.
  • Design process schemas and data flows for commodity trading platforms, covering deal lifecycle, cost allocation, scheduling & nominations, shipment tracking, and treasury integration.
  • Work with the development team to plan and validate the business architecture of trading solutions, ensuring built features accurately reflect how physical markets operate.
  • Prioritise across releases, helping the team sequence what gets built and when based on business value and operational dependencies.
  • Produce clear, structured documentation — including functional specifications, process diagrams, and data dictionaries — that bridge the gap between domain knowledge and engineering.
  • Contribute to the development of AI-enabled workflows and advisory tools by turning industry knowledge into scalable logic and systems.
  • Support stakeholder engagement, from problem definition and analysis to delivery of commercially relevant recommendations.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of physical commodity trading operations: deal lifecycle, trade confirmation, settlement, P&L reporting, cost allocation.
  • Hands-on experience with CTRM systems (e.g. Aspect, RightAngle, Allegro, Eka, or bespoke/in-house platforms) — as a user, business analyst, or implementation lead.
  • Familiarity with finance functions in commodity trading: invoicing, accruals, financial reporting, treasury integration.
  • Understanding of logistics workflows in oil and energy markets: scheduling, nominations, shipment tracking, bill of lading, delivery confirmation, terminal operations.
  • Proven ability to translate business processes into structured requirements, functional specifications, or data models.
  • Experience creating process diagrams (BPMN or equivalent) and working directly with development teams.
  • Strong financial modelling and commercial analysis capability.
  • Fluent in English and Russian.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in physical commodity trading, energy markets, or CTRM systems.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to oil and gas markets specifically — crude, refined products, or LNG trading flows.
  • Experience with risk management functions: market risk, credit risk, position management, limit monitoring, VaR.
  • Experience with pricing data sources: Platts, Argus, ICE, forward curves, netback calculations.
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, automation tools, or AI-assisted workflows in a commercial context.
  • Chartering, newbuilding, or sale-and-purchase exposure in shipping markets.
  • Published industry research or thought leadership.

Why This Role

  • Shape how commodity trading platforms are built — direct influence on architecture, features, and priorities from day one.
  • Work at the intersection of deep domain expertise and modern technology, including AI-driven development workflows.
  • Direct exposure to physical oil, energy, and shipping markets with senior industry stakeholders across trading, operations, and infrastructure.
  • High-ownership, high-impact role with visibility across the full project lifecycle.
  • Opportunity to define how data and AI are applied in a commercially driven environment.
