We are currently recruiting for an inquisitive and determined Health and Safety Advisor to join our SQSE team in Wigston. The team handles all activities relating to Food Safety, Health & Safety, Product Quality, Environment, Hygiene, and Pest Control, and you will be responsible for providing the site with Health, Safety, and Environmental advice and support. You will implement the pladis Central HS&E policies and procedures and drive continuous improvement of the site standards and systems. You will handle the site’s HS&E systems and internal audit programmes. You will be comfortable challenging the norm and will support the site in managing accident, issue, and incident prevention and investigations, and in delivering compliance to all legal, pladis, and other relevant external standards.

What will be your key deliverables?

  • Maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in Health, Safety, and Environment matters to provide the Site Compliance Manager and the site with appropriate advice and support.
  • Responsible for maintaining and facilitating continuous improvement in all aspects of the site’s HSE management systems and standards, in line with the group’s systems and policies.
  • Provide managers and employees with information on legislative and Corporate compliance, advise on ways of meeting statutory requirements and Corporate HS&E Policies, HSE recommendations, and codes of practice.
  • Responsible for the investigation and review of significant accidents, incidents, complaints, and pollution events, and the identification of solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Drive close out of issues and non-conformance.
  • Support the Crisis Incident Management (CIM) process for HS&E issues by carrying out formal risk assessments and reports into the site’s Green Team.
  • Take an active part in the site HSE committee.
  • Drive the HSE agenda for the site; address issues and resolve the site requirements for improvements.
  • Approve SOPs relating to HSE.
  • Provide and advise on appropriate site training as required.
  • Audit, monitor, and review the implementation of Health and Safety policies, working practices, safety procedures, and standards for all respective operations as directed by the Compliance Manager and Central Compliance team.
  • Coordinate all site audits through the Central Audit Team and accompany auditors on site.
  • Collate data and information and report on site’s HS&E performance.
  • Drive risk assessment processes to continuously improve the site’s health and safety performance.
  • Represent the site for regulatory health, safety & environmental authorities (The HSE, EA, and SEPA in Scotland).
  • Proactively manage the site's Accident & Incident Reporting Procedures, making recommendations for future improvements to prevent recurrence where necessary.
  • Collaborate with regulatory authorities and insurers on key matters such as fire risk assessment and certification, RIDDOR reporting, emergency planning, and safety improvement plans.
  • Maintain close liaison with Occupational Health (EHW) to ensure H&S provisions are met and understood.

Bring your experience

Essential

  • You must be an experienced Health & Safety professional with significant experience in a Health & Safety role.
  • You will ideally be from a manufacturing environment within any industry.
  • You will have good knowledge of Health & Safety law and its application and will work effectively with everyone from operators to the site leadership team to ensure compliance.
  • NEBOSH Certificate.
  • NEBOSH Diploma Part 1 or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Membership of IOSH or greater (e.g., CMIOSH).
  • Environmental Qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management or IEMA Certificate / Diploma).
  • Membership of IEMA.
  • Degree in relevant Health & Safety or Environmental subject.
  • NEBOSH Diploma Part 2.
