Omega are supporting a growing Mechanical & Electrical contractor in their search for an experienced M&E Estimator. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business delivering projects across the commercial, industrial, residential, and renewable energy sectors. The successful candidate will play a key role in winning new business by preparing accurate cost estimates and competitive tenders across both mechanical and electrical disciplines, whilst supporting procurement and commercial activities.
Key Responsibilities - M&E Estimator
- Take ownership of the estimating process from receipt of tender documentation through to submission
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender returns for mechanical and electrical projects
- Estimate mechanical building services including HVAC, pipework, ductwork, plumbing, public health, and low-carbon heating systems
- Estimate electrical services including power, lighting, containment, distribution, fire alarm, and data installations
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to produce accurate take-offs and pricing
- Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
- Support procurement activities and supplier management across live projects
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, and commercial teams to develop technically compliant and commercially viable solutions
- Attend site surveys, pre-tender meetings, and client consultations as required
- Evaluate project risks, margins, and opportunities to produce competitive and profitable submissions
Requirements - M&E Estimator
Essential:
- Proven experience as an M&E Estimator, Mechanical Estimator, Electrical Estimator, or Building Services Estimator
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services including HVAC, plumbing, pipework, and ductwork
- Good knowledge of electrical building services installations
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
- Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of project costing, margins, and risk
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to tight deadlines
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline
- Experience estimating renewable energy projects including Solar PV, EV Charging, Battery Storage, and Heat Pumps
- Knowledge of BS7671, CIBSE Guidance, Part L Regulations, and SAP assessments
- Experience using estimating software and AutoCAD
- Procurement and supplier management experience
