Take the Next Step into Business Management
Are you an experienced sales or commercial professional looking for the opportunity to step into management and eventually run a business of your own? Perhaps you already work within electrical wholesale and have progressed into a senior internal sales, external sales or business development position with a good level of commercial responsibility. Alternatively, you may already have branch or business management experience within another trade wholesale or distribution environment and be interested in moving into a highly successful sector with considerably more autonomy.
This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading specialist wholesale businesses as a Designate Manager, developing towards responsibility for running a profit centre within the Oxfordshire area. The position offers a basic salary of £50,000–£55,000, company car, pension and an attractive annual profit share bonus directly linked to business performance.
The Opportunity
This is not simply a sales management position. The successful Designate Manager will develop towards taking genuine responsibility for the commercial performance of a business, with the freedom to make decisions and shape how it operates. You will gain exposure to all areas of running a successful profit centre, including:
- Driving sales and identifying opportunities for business growth
- Developing relationships with existing and prospective customers
- Managing and motivating a commercial team
- Making decisions around stock levels and product ranges
- Negotiating purchasing and cost prices
- Managing margins and commercial performance
- Understanding and controlling costs
- Taking responsibility for budgets and P&L performance
- Identifying opportunities within the local market
- Recruiting and developing people
- Building supplier relationships
- Making commercial decisions based on the needs of your customers and local marketplace
The business operates a highly decentralised model, giving its managers considerable autonomy and freedom to run their profit centre in their own way. Rather than simply implementing decisions made by a remote head office, managers are trusted to understand their market, customers and team and make the commercial decisions required to grow their business.
Who Could This Suit?
There are several backgrounds that could work particularly well. You may currently work within electrical wholesale in a position such as:
- Senior Internal Sales
- Assistant Manager
- Sales Manager
- External Sales
- Business Development Manager
- Account Manager
You may have developed strong commercial knowledge and customer relationships but now feel ready for greater responsibility and a clear route into management. Alternatively, you may already be working as a Branch Manager, Business Manager or Profit Centre Manager within another trade-focused wholesale or distribution sector. This could include industries such as building materials, plumbing and heating, HVAC, industrial supplies, construction products or other B2B distribution environments.
For somebody already running a branch elsewhere, the attraction may be the opportunity to join a business where managers are given genuine responsibility for sales, stock, purchasing, people, costs and profitability, rather than operating within a heavily centralised structure.
What We Are Looking For
You will ideally be:
- Commercially minded and comfortable making business decisions
- Experienced within B2B sales, wholesale or distribution
- Able to build strong long-term customer relationships
- Ambitious and interested in progressing into full business management
- Confident taking responsibility and making decisions
- Comfortable working with sales figures, margins, costs and commercial targets
- Able to identify opportunities to grow sales and profitability
- A strong communicator capable of leading and developing people
- Entrepreneurial in your approach and motivated by the opportunity to influence your own results
Direct electrical wholesale experience would be highly advantageous, but it is not essential for somebody with strong branch management and commercial experience from a comparable trade distribution environment.
Package
Basic Salary: £50,000–£55,000
Company Car
Annual Profit Share Bonus linked to business performance
Company Pension
Excellent long-term management and career progression
This is a particularly strong opportunity for somebody who wants more than simply their next sales role. For the right person, it offers the opportunity to develop into running a significant commercial operation, with the autonomy, responsibility and financial reward that comes with successfully growing your own profit centre.
