NXT Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Financial Controller on behalf of a well-established and growing manufacturing business based in Haltwhistle. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, providing accurate financial reporting and valuable commercial insight to the senior leadership team.

Working closely with senior management, external accountants and the wider finance team, the successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining strong financial controls, supporting business decisions and driving improvements across the finance function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including detailed commentary and analysis
  • Produce monthly and annual financial reports
  • Oversee purchase and sales ledger processes, bank reconciliations and cash flow management
  • Work closely with external accountants on year-end accounts and statutory reporting
  • Prepare and provide information to support R&D Tax Credit claims
  • Manage payroll and ensure compliance with relevant payroll legislation
  • Prepare P11Ds and other HMRC returns where required
  • Supervise and support members of the finance team
  • Ensure VAT and other statutory returns are completed accurately and on time
  • Maintain accurate financial records and reporting within SAP
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Analyse manufacturing costs, stock valuation and production performance
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial controls, processes and efficiencies
  • Assist with audits and provide financial information when required
  • Provide financial information and analysis to support wider business decisions

Requirements

  • AAT qualified as a minimum
  • Part or fully qualified ACCA/CIMA would be advantageous
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong experience preparing management accounts
  • Experience using SAP ERP software
  • Knowledge of payroll processing and payroll software
  • Experience preparing P11Ds and dealing with HMRC compliance
  • Experience supporting or preparing R&D Tax Credit claims
  • Experience working with external accountants and auditors
  • Previous supervisory or team management experience
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders

  • Experience working with international group companies
  • Understanding of manufacturing costs, stock valuation and production performance
  • Experience with financial process improvement and controls
  • Strong commercial awareness and analytical ability
