Job purpose: Design, develop and implement new products (NPI/NPD). Support existing product improvements and cost down (VA/VE) initiatives.
Hours and Salary: Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 5pm, Friday 8:30am - 3pm £45,000 per annum.
Main responsibilities/job accountabilities:
- Establish detailed Product Specifications, including critical Fit & Functional performance, customer, industry and legal requirements.
- Provide reliable, cost effective designs that maintain compliance to Product Specification.
- Coordinate prototype procurement/manufacture for concept design validation.
- Ensure design validation (inc. tolerance analysis, calculation, FEA as required) is achieved and documented.
- Develop and maintain Design FMEA reports from concept to launch.
- Produce 3D models and 2D drawings and other technical documentation.
- Coordinate regular cross-functional design and DFM reviews, documenting actions/minutes.
- Check and approve designs (3D and 2D), calculations and reports.
- Prepare and amend costed BOMs through all project phases.
- Provide technical support for suppliers, toolmakers, product certification and approval.
- Ensure product verification testing and fit & functional performance is maintained and documented.
- Ensure all design actions/targets are met or recovery plans achieved.
- Ensure accuracy of product data with MRP business system (BOMs, routings, weights etc).
- Provide technical expertise for Design Support, new business enquiries and Engineering Change process.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Deliver robust products to agreed timescale, quality and budget.
- Maintain compliance to Product Specifications throughout product life.
- Right first-time product design, data input and system accuracy.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Design engineering role within dynamic manufacturing organisation.
- Track record of successful new product development and introduction.
- Hands-on, practical engineering skill (i.e. prototype building, testing).
- Proven 3D and 2D capability (AutoCad inventor or equivalent).
- System knowledge of NPI Gateway process, Design FMEA and Design for Manufacture/Assembly.
