About the role

Workshop Foreman – Heavy Plant Harpenden £40,000-£50,000 + Overtime The Role We're working with a well-established and highly respected plant hire business with a strong UK presence.

They've built a strong reputation for investing in their fleet and engineers, and due to continued growth, they're looking to bring an experienced Workshop Foreman to lead the day-to-day running of its busy Harpenden workshop.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be responsible for maintaining a modern fleet of construction plant, ensuring high standards of workmanship, supporting engineers and helping the depot operate efficiently.

You'll split your time between carrying out repairs yourself and supervising the workshop team, ensuring machines are prepared, serviced and repaired to the highest standard while maintaining a safe and productive working environment.

Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise the workshop engineering team.

Carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on a wide range of heavy plant equipment.

Allocate workloads and ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Support engineers with technical fault finding and complex repairs.

Ensure all PDI inspections, LOLER requirements (where applicable) and machine preparation are completed.

Liaise with the Depot Manager regarding workshop priorities, machine availability and customer requirements.

Maintain accurate service records and job documentation.

Ensure the workshop is kept clean, organised and compliant with all Health & Safety procedures.

Identify training and development needs within the engineering team.

Assist with parts requirements and workshop stock management when required.

The Ideal Candidate Previous experience as a Workshop Foreman, Chargehand, Lead Engineer or Senior Heavy Plant Engineer.

Strong background servicing and repairing heavy construction plant.

Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding ability across hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems.

Experience leading or mentoring engineers in a workshop environment.

Good organisational and communication skills.

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Heavy Vehicle or Agricultural Engineering is desirable.

Full UK Driving Licence.
