Summary of Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate to join our leading employment law team.

The employment team, based in Edinburgh and Glasgow but providing advice throughout the UK, has more accredited employment law specialists than any other team in Scotland and are highly ranked in Legal 500 and Chambers.

The team assist clients on a very wide range of employment law issues both contentious and non-contentious.

We work with some of the best-known employers across Scotland as well as a significant number of senior executives.

We're looking for an experienced senior associate/associate to work as part of our senior executive practice providing advice, mainly to senior executives, in connection with all aspects of employment law.

The senior executives we advise are based throughout the UK.

This role can be based in the office in Edinburgh or Glasgow or can be wholly or partly remote. We are also open to discussing part-time and flexible working arrangements.

  • Key Tasks
  • Advise senior executives on negotiating and concluding negotiated exits collaborating working closely with our corporate and tax colleagues when doing so;
  • Review and provide advice in relation to senior executive contracts;
  • Advise in relation to complex employment claims and grievances;
  • Represent clients during ACAS conciliation and before employment tribunals;
  • Manage your caseload competently, professionally efficiently and cost effectively, with minimum supervision, to achieve client and firm objectives.
  • Provide practical solution based advice, often within very tight timescales.
  • Maximise business development opportunities from existing and potential clients and support divisional marketing initiatives including networking with referrers and keeping in touch with former clients.
  • Contribute constructively to the success of the Employment Law Team.
  • Contribute to organising and delivering technical training as required within the team and wider division.
  • Keep abreast of case law and legislative changes within employment law.

Qualifications and Experience

  • You will have at least 8 years PQE experience of employment law and have previous experience of advising senior executives in complex and high value claims.

  • You enjoy working within a team and autonomously on your own initiative.
  • You are personable and good at building and developing client relationships.

  • You are committed to providing a good client experience and willing to put in extra time and effort when required
