About the role

We are looking for a Sub Agent for our client in East Suffolk. As a Sub-Agent, you are responsible for managing a defined section of works on a major infrastructure project, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient delivery in line with programme, cost, and quality objectives. You act as the key delivery interface between the Agent/Project Manager and the site team, leading engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors to achieve project objectives.

  • Delivery & Programme Lead the delivery of a section of works in line with programme, cost, and quality targets. Assist in the development of short-term programmes, look-ahead plans, and progress reporting. Identify programme risks and implement mitigation measures.
  • Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards. Undertake and record regular site safety inspections. Lead toolbox talks, RAMS briefings, and safety stand-downs. Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved method statements and risk assessments.
  • Engineering & Technical Control Ensure temporary works are designed, approved, and implemented correctly. Maintain engineering control and site compliance with design specifications. Oversee the production of as-built records and quality documentation. Resolve technical issues with engineers and designers.
  • Resource Management Plan and coordinate labour, plant, and materials. Ensure the site team has the information and resources required to deliver the works. Supervise engineers, foremen, and subcontractors.
  • Commercial & Cost Awareness Support the commercial team with cost tracking, forecasting, and change management inputs. Ensure efficient use of resources and minimise waste.
  • Stakeholder & Team Leadership Maintain strong working relationships across site, design, commercial, and planning teams. Promote a 'one team' culture and support the development of engineers and supervisors.

Key Interfaces: Agent / Project Manager, Section Engineers and the wider engineering team, commercial and planning functions, subcontractors and the supply chain, client and stakeholder representatives where required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Degree / HNC in Civil Engineering or Construction, or equivalent experience. Experience in major infrastructure, highways, or heavy civils projects. Strong understanding of temporary works, RAMS, programme delivery, and quality systems. CSCS card. Working towards professional membership (ICE / CIOB desirable). Good IT skills, with confidence using MS Office, AutoCAD, and CEMAR. Ability to communicate effectively with site engineers, foremen, supervisors, and the site-based workforce. Experience in earthworks, structures, highways, drainage, or utilities. Relevant civil engineering experience, including setting out works and managing a site engineering team. Experience with concrete structures would be beneficial but is not essential. Value-add in the Major Roads context (optional enhancement). Experience in regulated environments, such as nuclear, utilities, or highways authority works. Understanding of permit systems (for example PTW, hot works, and excavations), quality traceability / lifetime records, and stakeholder and environmental constraints.

DESIRABLE: SSSTS/SMSTS. Experience in Groundworks, Earthworks, Roadworks & Structures. Nuclear Experience.
