About the role

Overview of the role

Programme Facilitators in the Probation Service deliver a range of accredited programmes and structured interventions aimed at reducing re‑offending and supporting offenders to rebuild pro‑social lives.

The role involves group and individual work with people on community orders or on licence after release, including those convicted of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, violent and acquisitive offences.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver accredited programme content and structured interventions in group and one‑to‑one sessions.
  • Manage group dynamics, address challenging behaviour, and maintain a safe and constructive learning environment.
  • Monitor participants' progress, risk, and wellbeing throughout the intervention.
  • Keep accurate records, share insights with relevant teams, and support sentence management in partnership with courts and other criminal justice agencies.
  • Provide workshops and briefings to probation staff and external stakeholders.
  • Use pro‑social modelling to reinforce positive behaviours.

Qualifications and Eligibility

  • Right to work in the UK – you must have or be able to obtain the legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
  • For those who have held a Skilled Worker visa prior to 22 July 2025, you may be considered for sponsorship.

Those who have not held such a visa will need to secure an alternative route to work in the UK.

  • Successful completion of the 6‑month probationary period, training programme, and assessment centre.
  • Attendance at training covering all aspects of programme delivery, including the theory behind the interventions.
  • Working Conditions
  • Majority of programmes are delivered in the evening; unsocial hours (evenings, Saturdays) are essential.
  • Travel to various locations from your office base; travel expenses can be claimed.
  • No line management responsibility.
  • Standard full‑time working hours are 37 hours per week, excluding unpaid breaks.
  • Salary and Pay

Starting salary is £28,064.

In addition you will receive unsocial hours payments: 30% for evenings and 50% for Saturdays.

Annual pay progression is available through a Competency Based Framework (CBF) as you increase competence.
