Job Purpose
To design and develop high-quality electro-mechanical solutions for low voltage power distribution systems, including sheet metal enclosures and structural components. The role focuses on delivering accurate CAD designs, detailed manufacturing documentation, and robust product specifications in line with ISO 9001 standards.

This role sits within the Design & Development function, delivering electro-mechanical solutions for low voltage (LV) power distribution systems within an ISO 9001 environment.
The Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer works closely with Production, Quality, Procurement, and Technical Sales to ensure designs are robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable. The role supports the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to prototype validation, new product introduction (NPI), and production support.
Operating in a multidisciplinary environment, the role integrates mechanical and electrical design, supports supplier engagement, and resolves design and manufacturing challenges. It also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product reliability, standardisation, and engineering practices, while managing multiple projects and ensuring compliance with technical, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Job Dimensions
- The role will be based in Harlow 5 days per week.
- This role sits within the Design & Development function, supporting the design and delivery of low voltage electrical products for a range of industrial sectors.
- The Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer works cross-functionally with Production, Quality, and Technical Sales to ensure designs are manufacturable, compliant, and meet customer requirements, contributing across the full product lifecycle within an ISO 9001 environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Design and develop sheet metal enclosures, structural components, and integrated electro‑mechanical assemblies for low voltage (LV) power distribution systems, ensuring compliance with product specifications and industry standards.
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings, including tolerancing, to support manufacturing and assembly requirements.
- Create, maintain, and control Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring accuracy, cost‑effectiveness, and alignment with procurement requirements.
- Support prototype builds, product testing, and validation activities, including troubleshooting and design iterations where required.
- Generate clear and comprehensive manufacturing documentation, including assembly instructions, fabrication details, and design specifications.
- Ensure all design activities comply with ISO 9001 standards, internal engineering processes, and relevant electrical and safety regulations.
- Provide ongoing technical support to manufacturing teams, resolving design queries and improving manufacturability and build efficiency.
- Liaise with suppliers to support component selection, technical clarification.
- Contribute to new product introduction (NPI) activities, supporting the transition from design to full production.
- Drive continuous improvement by refining design standards, processes, and best practices across the engineering function.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Qualifications:
- Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering (preferably electrical).
- Proven work experience as an Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role.
Skills:
- Experience in electro‑mechanical design of electrical distribution equipment.
- Experience with diagnostic, test, and repair processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical details to a non-technical audience.
- The ability to work with software/hardware engineers to design and debug systems.
Essential Knowledge:
- Proficiency in Onshape CAD or 3D CAD similar software.
- Knowledge of low voltage electrical protection and switchgear.
