Job Description: The Creative Director (Art) leads the visual creative vision across healthcare and pharmaceutical brands, setting the standard for conceptual thinking, art direction, visual systems, and integrated campaign execution. The role partners with senior leaders across Copy, Strategy, Client Services, Medical, and Regulatory to develop work that is strategically rigorous, medically accurate, visually distinctive, and effective across channels. The Creative Director (Art) provides senior client counsel, develops creative talent, and shapes ideas that strengthen brands, deepen client relationships, and support account growth.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the visual creative vision for integrated healthcare and pharmaceutical campaigns across digital, social, CRM, print, presentation, experiential, and emerging channels, establishing campaign platforms and design systems from initial brief through final delivery.
  • Direct creative quality across multiple accounts and workstreams, guiding Associate Creative Directors, Art Directors, and designers on concepts, visual narratives, typography, imagery, interaction, and channel execution while maintaining consistency with brand strategy and business objectives.
  • Partner with senior Copy, Strategy, Medical, Regulatory, and Client Services leaders to shape ideas that balance creative ambition, audience relevance, scientific accuracy, regulatory requirements, user experience, and measurable client objectives.
  • Present and defend creative strategies, campaign platforms, and visual direction to senior client and internal stakeholders, using audience, strategic, and creative rationale to guide decisions and move complex work forward.
  • Develop creative talent and contribute to business growth by coaching senior and emerging creatives, raising standards across the Creative Craft, and leading creative thinking for pitches, new business opportunities, and account expansion.

Qualifications Required:

  • 10+ years of art direction, design, and creative leadership experience in advertising, marketing, healthcare communications, or a related agency environment, with a portfolio demonstrating progression from hands-on concept development to ownership of major campaigns or creative platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience leading creative work for healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or similarly regulated and complex clients, with portfolio examples spanning integrated campaigns and multiple audience or channel types.
  • Portfolio demonstrating advanced art direction and visual leadership across campaign concepts, visual systems, typography, digital experiences, social, CRM, presentations, experiential work, and other integrated deliverables.
  • Experience presenting and defending creative strategies and campaign ideas to senior client stakeholders, including navigating significant feedback, strategic trade-offs, and complex business or brand decisions.
  • Experience directing creative output across multiple concurrent accounts or workstreams, including ownership of quality through agency creative workflows, medical and regulatory review, production, and final delivery.
  • Experience leading and developing senior creative talent, including Associate Creative Directors, Art Directors, and designers, with evidence of improving creative quality, team capability, and delivery across accounts.

Desired:

  • Comfort and enthusiasm for using AI as a regular part of how work gets done.
  • Experience developing visual platforms across HCP, patient, payer, or disease awareness audiences, including adapting design systems while maintaining strategic and medical accuracy.
  • Experience leading creative contributions to pitches, new business presentations, organic growth opportunities, or major client initiatives within healthcare, pharma, or life sciences.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Keynote, presentation design, and contemporary digital design workflows, with examples of applying these tools to high-level creative development.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare brand strategy, audience needs, therapeutic area considerations, and market dynamics, with examples of translating that understanding into differentiated visual creative work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Design, Art Direction, Visual Communications, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
