£38,000 to £42,000 depending on experience, plus a strong benefits package
Location
London Bridge (SE1), hybrid, three days a week in the office and two from home
We're looking for a designer with strong design foundations and a sharp creative mind to join our London office, a short walk from London Bridge and Borough Market. Someone who can make a research report a pleasure to read, then turn around and visualise concepts and branded assets that land with clients and the families we're designing for.
Why this role, and why you
Design is changing fast. AI can produce a hundred images in an afternoon. But volume isn’t judgement. Knowing which idea is right, why a layout works and how to make something feel considered matters more than ever.
Our work is changing too. It’s increasingly about creative solutions, art direction and concept visualisation. It’s also about turning complex insight and knowledge into work that’s clear, beautiful and genuinely useful.
So we’re not hiring against a checklist of software. We’re looking for a designer with strong fundamentals who uses them to think, not just to finish. You’ll have two to four years’ experience, be ready to own smaller briefs and be driven to grow into a senior role.
What you’ll be doing
- Design across a broad mix of digital formats:, social content, campaign assets, email and web pages, landing pages, and digital advertising
- Generate and design original creative ideas for branding, digital, social and campaign projects, presenting confidently to Senior Designer and Creative Director and, where needed, clients
- Designing reports, presentations and knowledge pieces that turn research and strategy into clear, engaging stories
- Using AI image and video tools to visualise ideas quickly, then art directing the output so it’s on brief, on brand and right for the audience
- Taking smaller briefs from first idea to finished artwork, with support from the senior members in the team
- Presenting and explaining your thinking to the team, and to clients as your confidence grows
- Working closely with researchers, strategists and producers so ideas are grounded in real insight about families
- Supporting new business pitches with concepts and visuals that help us win work
- Take the lead on KI’s brand and be the visual brand guardian
- Bringing new tools, references and ways of working into the studio, and sharing what you learn
Design first, ideas on top
We’ll be clear about this: we’re looking for a strong designer who thinks creatively, not an ideas person who can design okay.
Your portfolio should show real craft first: confident typography, considered layouts and a clear sense of hierarchy. On top of that, we want to see how you think, from the interesting angle you found in a brief to the routes you explored before landing on the final one.
Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud and AI tools are how you get there, not what defines you. We care less about which tools you know and more about whether you know what good looks like and how to get to it.
What you’ll bring
- Two to four years’ design experience in an agency, studio or in-house team
- Strong foundations in typography, layout, grids, hierarchy, colour and composition
- Creative and conceptual thinking, with the ability to find the angle in a brief and develop more than one route
- A good eye for art direction, with the ability to create and develop a distinctive look and feel and carry it consistently across a project
- Experience turning complex or information-heavy content into reports, presentations, editorial or infographics that are clear and engaging
- Confidence using Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Photoshop and Illustrator
- Clear communication, including the ability to explain the 'why' behind your work: why a piece of design works, or the thinking behind an approach
- Good organisation to manage several projects, respond well to feedback and hit deadlines
- Curiosity about where design is heading, and as much enthusiasm for a sharp idea as a beautifully crafted layout
Bonus
- Experience working on brands for children and families
- Hands-on experience using AI image or video tools to explore and visualise ideas, and a critical eye for when the output is good enough and when it isn’t
- Motion, editing or 3D skills - please demonstrate in portfolio
- A point of view on how AI is changing creative work, including the questions it raises around originality, IP and responsibility
How we think about AI
We see AI as a powerful part of the creative toolkit that helps us explore more ideas and visualise them faster. It doesn’t replace judgement, taste or craft, and it doesn’t replace the care we take when creating for children and families.
You’ll use it thoughtfully and responsibly, with respect for copyright, our clients’ brands and the audiences we design for.
What’s in it for you
- £38,000 to £42,000 depending on experience
- Private health insurance and pension
- 20 days of holiday, UK bank holidays and a five-day closure over Christmas and New Year
- A duvet day, your birthday off and two paid volunteering days a year
- Hybrid working, plus four weeks a year to work from anywhere in the world
- Weekly training and learning sessions, and access to our proprietary frameworks
- Cycle-to-work scheme, travel loans and regular team meals
