About the role:
The role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in high value complex microscopy instrumentation and precise motion control environments, who enjoys solving complex multidisciplinary problems in advanced semiconductor equipment. A typical day for a Technical Support Specialist (Control Systems) could look like this:
- Control Systems Technical Support
- Providing advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic support for control system issues across installed Metron3D systems and manufacturing builds
- Acting as a trusted technical escalation point for Customer Support, Field Service, and Applications teams on software–hardware integration topics
- Investigating issues across motion control, sensors, feedback loops, and system automation
- Supporting the fast, effective resolution of high‑impact field issues affecting system performance
- Motion Control & Precision Systems
- Analysing and troubleshooting closed‑loop control systems and feedback performance
- Working hands‑on with high‑precision sensors, encoders, and motion control components
- Automation & Equipment Integration
- Supporting control system integration with semiconductor automation equipment, including EFEM interfaces and wafer‑handling robotics
- Ensuring stable communication, timing, and coordination across system components
- System‑Level Diagnostics
- Working closely with the Technical Support Specialist (Hardware) and Customer Support Team to understand interactions between control software and hardware
- Reviewing system logs, control data, and diagnostics to identify root causes of instability or performance drift
- Producing clear, structured reports for both engineering and management audiences
- Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions
- Identifying design, configuration, or process improvements to prevent recurring issues
- Supporting engineering teams in improving control system architecture and robustness
- Capturing lessons learned from field issues and feeding them back into internal knowledge bases
- Technical Knowledge Development
- Developing and maintaining troubleshooting guides, diagnostic workflows, and technical documentation
- Supporting internal training for Customer Support, Applications, and Manufacturing teams
- Cross‑Functional Support
- Taking part in cross‑functional technical and operational discussions to strengthen system‑level thinking
- Supporting User Acceptance Testing and wider product testing activities
- Collaborating with the Software team to support smooth and reliable software releases
Who we are looking for:
To succeed as a Technical Support Specialist (Control Systems), we do need you to have the following experience or skills:
- Understanding of precision electromechanical and motion control systems
- Working with high-stability instrumentation requiring sub-micron precision
- Confident with analysing system logs, telemetry and diagnostic outputs
- Exposure to semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation, photonics
- Working across multidisciplinary teams including hardware, software, applications, and manufacturing
- Communicating complex engineering issues to international stakeholders
Nice to have:
- Python, LabView, C#
- Familiarity with metrology tools, nano-scale microscopy systems preferred
- Exposure to automation interfaces and semiconductor tool architectures
Education / Qualifications:
Either a degree in Physics or Electronic Engineering or similar, or a clear equivalent path through relevant apprenticeship or accumulated experience.
